Hi all

We move over very soon should we keep our sky box and account and can it work in Spain?

The villa we are renting apparently has broadband so I guess we should cancel our broadband?

Thanks in

Sky works but you'll need at least a 1.4m dish and preferably a 1.8m one. You can't use catchup though because that requires the box to be connected to the Internet but if you do that Sky will detect that you are not in the UK and block your card.

The advantage with Sky,for me anyway, is that it's a known quantity whereas with IPTV which most use can be very hit and miss and you'll be hard pressed to find anybody who hasn't had/is having problems with it ranging from simple but nevertheless annoying buffering to a complete loss of service barely weeks into paying for a year upfront.

I've hedged my bets by having both but if anyone here is using an IPTV service which works faultlessly both on live TV and catchup I'd love to hear about it!

To hide your location you could use Spider VPN, if you use their router it costs £10 for the router and first month's subscription, just connect to your existing router it's plug and play. Various packages available. I have no connection with them but have found the service excellent.

They are not as anonymous as you are led to believe either.

True but the OP did ask about a Sky box with an A/C !

If you have a 3rd party boxes which receive subscription channels without a card then pray do tell because I'm all ears.

No comments from anybody on trouble free IPTV services then ?

If you want to continue to watch your Sky pay channels, then you need to keep your Sky account going. Just make sure that the account is registered to a UK address that you can "control". But do not tell them you are moving the box and card to Spain - that is against the SKy TandCs and they will cancel the card.

But you will need to cancel your UK broadband service as that will not work in Spain. YOu will need a internet service from a spanish provider, one of the "big" ones like movistar, vodaphone, orange, or a local provider like Blu, Teleitec... but speeds and availability will depends where exactly you are moving to.

In Javea you need a dish a minimum of 110x120cm. In this area for the last 4 years you no longer need the 1.8m dish.

If you want your catch up and on demand services, then you need to connect your sky box to your router. However, as your box will be in Spain, the content will be blocked. So you need a service, like https://www.smartdnsproxy.com/?afid=b31e53d8756f , to "hide" that you using the box in Spain. Cost about 50 euros a year. No need for extra routers, as you can input the data directly into the sky box. And DNS services tend to be better than VPNs.

If you do not want Sky pay channels, then simply cancel your contract. You will still receive channels like BBC ITV C4 Five etc, as these are free on satellite and are available on a Sky box even without a sky card. But you can record on a sky box only with a sky subscription, which the alternative is a Freesat HDR box, that allows you to record subscription free.

Do not bring or use a Freeview box to Spain. They will not work in Spain for UK TV channels. They do not work on satellite dishes. Freeview boxes are for use with a TV aerial. Connect to a tv aerial in Spain and they will only get Spanish channels. Many people confuse Freeview with Freesat, and post that Freeview boxes work in Spain on a dish. They do not. Freeview boxes work with TV aerials. Freesat works with satellite dishes. I have been to so many people who have brought Freeview boxes to Spain and expecting them to work on a satellite dish after they have read they work on a dish in Spain when they cannot.

"If you have a 3rd party boxes which receive subscription channels without a card then pray do tell because I'm all ears." - this is no longer available for Sky UK via satellite, since Sky improved their security and stopped cardshare of their channels. Although other TV operators channels are still available via cardshare for the movement.

"No comments from anybody on trouble free IPTV services then ?" - probably because no IPTV service is trouble free. All have their issues. If a supplier says differently, they are lying. But then IPTV is good if you have decent internet, dont want a dish, and like to get your TV via a "third party / pirate stream" which can be closed down at any time

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

No because I only route my TV through the vpn router, using a different log in for iPlayer etc, for everything else i use my ISPs router to log into.

"Strangely enough, a non-freesat box is the only legal way to watch UK TV in Spain. Using a Sky box, or IPTTV on the internet has to be fudged to avoid breaking T&Cs or geographic barriers. Even FreeSat is technically illegal as it breaks the FreeSat T&Cs using it out of the UK."

There is nothing in any TandCs about using a Freesat box outside the UK. In fact there are no TandCs for a Freesat box (either on the box or inside the box or on any documentation in the box or on their website) as there is no contract or agreement. The only Freesat TandCs I can see are for using their website. So you can legally use a Freesat box outside the UK.

This even applies to a Sky box, as the box is the property of the customer. (but not a SkyQ box, which remains Skys property at all times)

But use of a Sky card is against the TandCs of the Sky contract. It is not illegal to use a Sky card abroad - especially in a private residence (as per the EU ruling a few years ago with the pub using a foreign card for football vs premier league), but is in breach of their TandCs, which if they find you have broken those TandCs they can cancel the contract and card.

So can we buy a freesat box in Spain or should we buy here? And are dishes easy to have installed?
