Could anybody tell me categorically, after we get our residency in January, how long can we drive our uk car in Spain, in conversation we keep getting different periods, ranging from 1 month to 6 months, the correct time period would mean I can plan ahead.

It depends how long you have been in Spain.
As far as I know you are allowed to drive a UK reg car in Spain for 6 months resident or not, for example if you arrive in Jan then you have 6 months from then.

This is helpful, but accentuates my problem in that i now have 2 categorically different answers, yours sounds more plausible, but maybe I will have to go to the gestor, but do appreciate all the replies on the forum.

Most important: you need a "Certificate of Conformity" (COC) from the manufacturer. Without this document be prepared for considerable time and money wasting complications. Once having that COC the rest is simple. Drive into any ITV, pay some 90,- and get the "Certificado de Caracteristicas Tecnicas". The next step is paying Community Tax at your "Ayuntamiento". With both documents and a proof of ownership, download register form here https://sede.dgt.gob.es/Galerias/tramites-y-multas/modelos-solicitud/01/Mod.01-ES.pdf, pay registration fee (98,-) and off you got right to "Trafico". Nearby get license plates (some 30,-) and you 're done.

By law if Spanish resident you are not allowed to drive a UK car and dont forget to do your income tax in may its expensive 24pc allowance 6900 e per person

Hi is this definitive, because I would have to plan a return trip to uk before residency in January?
Yes also gardia have access to dvla records

Also with Brexit looming it could change again put the car in relative name
