hi,

hoping someone can give me a few ideas to go over about getting to Javea.

me and the wife hope to come over to Javea area and rent for 8-12 months prior to buying , just to make sure we have the right location etc.

my problem is the wife will not fly anymore, full stop, no getting her on a plane.

i was thinking about flying over and getting everything sorted out first and leave her in the Uk before renting our house out, then when i'm in Javea and have a place to rent sorted out, buy a car in Javea, drive back and pick her and some personal belongings up and drive back to Javea, happy days .

i have just read on a post that you cant take a spanish registered car into the UK unless you are a resident, which i won't be by then.

now then, need suggestion how to get her here, can i drive a spanish registered car to the north of france and pick her up at the ferry port if she catches a train to Plymouth/Portsmouth and gets the ferry to France as a foot passenger, or has france similar restrictions as the UK about spanish registed cars ?

would it be best to bring her over in a Uk registered car then sell/part exchange it when i arrive in Javea for a Spanish registered car,as i've been told you can't drive a Uk registered car in Spain for more than 6 months.

any suggestions will be welcome.

many thanks,

great forum by the way.

john

There are coach services ... London Victoria to various Spanish cities.

Eg London-Alicante  for less than £150.

Hi

I drove my UK car over to Spain with my wife and the dog then after a couple of weeks settling in drove back via Santander ferry, leaving the wife and the dog in Spain set up with everything they would need until I returned.

Before leaving for Spain I pre arranged to sell the car back in the UK and got a flight back but there are people/companies in Spain who will buy UK reg cars.

very helpful on both replies.

i'll look into both options.

either of you advise which is the best way to get to Javea initially in my UK car, ferry to France and then drive or straight to Spain on the overnight ferry ?

many thanks.

hi kelvin1960,

not sure what i'm doing wrong but when you go to the link for eurolines i can't seem to find a departure city in the UK, in fact they only seem to go as far as the letter 'C'.

have you had experience using them before from the UK ?

thanks.

Hmmm .... you are right, the Eurolines site seems defunct.

It looks like www.goeuro.co.uk can get you a bus from London Victoria to Madrid.

National Express will get you from most UK towns to London Victoria, and Madrid is about 5 hours drive from me (Southern Costa Blanca).

I haven't done the coach myself, but I know people who have (albeit a while ago).

When driving here, I have used the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander or Bilbao. Then it is a 9 hour drive to Southern Costs Blanca.

Other users of this forum prefer the scenic route through France.

Hi

I used the Chunnel 35min to France but the route I planned took me around Paris, avoid Paris at all costs it’s a nightmare.

If you use google maps it will give you various routes, the one that heads west from Calais seems to be the best and adds about 2 hrs. Book a couple of stops en route as it is a long long drive.

I returned on the Santander ferry so less driving but 20 hrs on ferry. This is also an option for driving to Spain and possible to do the Spanish part in the day.
