Hello

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/british-embassy-madrid-answers-questions-on-brexit

I stumbled across this Gov page  the article is from April 19:

"Last month, the British Embassy in Madrid held a Facebook Live Q&A session with HMA Simon Manley and Regional Consular Policy Advisor Lorna Geddie. Topics covered included residency, healthcare, pensions, driving and travel.

Read the note on how to prepare for Brexit created in response to the questions. You can also watch the video of the event."

The Notes are very interesting and contain many of the answers people ask about on the forum.  Please shout if you think some of this is now incorrect?

Here is a July Facebook Live session - can't see any notes as yet... https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?v=593233274534960&ref=watch_permalink

I hope Jill doesn't mind me piggybacking on her thread here but it seemed pointless clogging up the board with another new thread when my query is linked to the subject matter of hers.

So here goes...

We've already spoken with our Spanish solicitor in fairly broad terms about residency requirements post transition period & the best he can advise is that as we'll become extranjeros, we'll be required to provide proof of funding & private health care before we can legally register & get on the Padron.

That's fair enough & we've known this for a good while now but my thoughts have recently turned to buying a business in Spain & moving over to run it.

I get that we'll still be extranjeros if we don't begin the process before Dec 31st 2020 but...does the same proof of funding requirement apply if you're coming over to run a business & pay into the system from Day 1?

Previously, I was scheduled to come over last year and become an employee of a UK based company at their Murcian site but that fell through so I never really looked into the requirements for private income because as an employee, my tax contributions would presumably have covered this under existing EU T&Cs.

We've only discussed the requirements for 3rd country immigrants but on the basis of not having a mechanism to pay Spanish taxes set up, ie as business owners.

Can anyone help?

(Yes, James...I'm looking in your general direction...again.)

Thanks in advance,

Dave
