I know a lot is unknown about after brexit. My question is. Before I could retire in Spain after selling my house in the Uk.apply for residency and live off my Uk state pension with cash from the sale of my house as back up in the bank.

If the income required is to rise to over 20.000 euro a year to be resident, I will fall way short of this as will only have my Uk state pension.unless the money in the bank counts and proves I can support myself.?

Are my dreams of retirement in Spain now over ??

There must be a lot of people in my position.

Anyone help on this please ?

Hi,

The conditions for migrating to Spain during 2020 are the existing conditions which have been in place for many years.

However, for many people, migrating to Spain on a permanent basis is not viable in 2020 and unfortunately we do not yet know what, if any, agreements will be in place from next year.  Worst case scenario is the default to current "non-EU" regulations already in place which are far more onerous that those for EU citizens. Perhaps the unicorns will arrange a "not to harsh" residency criteria...

Alternatively, as a non-resident you could look at the EITAS visa process which allows for 90 days within a rolling 180 day period within the Schengen area.

Probably not the news you want but that's Brexit for you...
