Sorry to hear about your personal situation. However, you will find lots of us in the Costa Blanca looking to start the next phase of our lives.

We, like you started looking in Denia and Javea, then continued south to Moraira and further to Altea where we recently bought. Like you, we didn't rent first, not wanting to spend a year in limbo and spending money we could use towards the purchase. Denia is a really nice normal, working town with access to ferries to Ibiza and other places. Javea we liked the old town, but not so much the small sandy beach which is bordered by shops and eateries.  Moraira we loved but found it too expensive, and ended up in Altea Hills area, which is a rocky hillside but beautful views. We loved also Calpe as a town, with the nice long beach, full range of shops and restaurants. However, we found the housing too tight (close houses) for our liking, but will probably spend more time in Calpe than Altea (the hills where we bought is between the two, with a tennis club). We have yet to investigate, but I hear Altea is nice...also I forgot to mention the Benissa coast!

What i might suggest is to drive the coast and inland a little, get a feel for the different communities and see what feels right. Good luck!

I have discovered Altea lately It’s a hidden gem I spent the winter there it’s a bohemian artistic town The old town is spectacular and the promenade is not too tourists

It has a rocky beach so I think that’s why it doesn’t attract mass tourism

The town next Albrir can be walked to along the seafront It’s where the Ex Pat’s tend to live so you can dip in and out depending how you f

Hi, we looked in Denia and Javea but bought in Moraira which we absolutely love. Denia is more authentic town with lots of locals, bars, restaurants, cafes and lovely marina. Javea is split into 3 parts, the arenal beach, the marina and the old town all apart. Because of that Javea is less cohesive. I'd highly recommend you include Moraira in your visit. Smaller and perfectly formed.

Javea, hands down. Three distinct areas:- Beach, Old Town, Port. Loads of great bars, restaurants and shops, golf and sports facilities in the area.
The Mongo area has lovely walks and we are still discovering hidden coves and beaches other then the Playa.

Local Spanish are, in our experience helpful and kind. I agree with the reader who recommended Moraira but I prefer to live in Javea and visit. Deniai great to visit too. It takes us about 20/25 mins’ to drive to Denia.
