UPS wanted to charge me 40 euros to receive my birthday gift from my daughter so, after discussing that it would be returned to the UK within approximately one week at no further cost I had it returned as the 40 euros was as much as the value although it was clearly labeled ‘gift.’ At no time was she told that there would be an extra charge otherwise she would not have posted it. Now three months have gone by and they still cannot find it despite having tracking numbers. Has anyone else had this experience and what can be done about it?

Everyone has had different experiences and the general advice is don't send anything through the post apart from letters.

Coreos and the Royal Mail tracking systems do not talk to one another. It is fairly common knowledge that since Britain elected to leave the EU that duty is payable on most items, the general consensus is that it’s better not to bother trying.

Hi,

In my experience the best way to send things abroad is by DHL.

Firstly make sure you give a proper description of the the item. Gift will not work.

Secondly make sure you put the correct weight and size and cost.?

Thirdly Make sure the driver has a copy of the Airway bill and a copy of the customs declaration form.

Two copies of both the Airway bill and the customs declaration need to be attached to the parcel.

This can be done from your own home as long as you have a computer and printer.

I have never been charged extra when receiving items in Spain.
