I suppose most people have their favourite charities and causes and of course I am no exception. Some causes are household names - PDSA, RSPCA, British Legion, Cancer Research, Battersea Dogs Home etc etc.

However there are lesser known causes that really do deserve the attention of the public. I tend to direct my very limited donations to these largely because they are so little known and don't have the advertising and fund raising muscle of the heavy.weights.

Today, I'd like to draw the Forum's attention to just one of these. I am sure many or even most people on the Forum will know about the nice "gentlemen" in Saudi Arabia to whom Britain sells billions worth of arms for use against the Yemenis. Of course Saudi is not the only customer but it is the best known especially following a well known journalist's visit to the Saudi Embassy in Turkey a while back where one might say he had a bad time!

The Campaign Against the Arms Trade, CAAT has been in existance at least 35 years but attracted headlines when it recently won a victory in the Court of Appeal declaring that arms sales to Saudi were in breach of human rights and that further sales would be an offence under the law. The government however plans to take an appeal to the Supreme Court and plans to continue sales in the meantime disregarding the court's findings.

Many posts here deplore the flouting of laws on tax and social security by English who carry on as if laws didn't exist. Likewise, many seem to approve the new rental laws without criticism. Here we have a government that flouts the basic laws of human rights but somehow this is seen in a different light. Why?

CAAT also conducts demonstrations outside the venues of the various arms sales exhibitions that take place regularly throughout England. Few people are aware of these grotesque events.

If you care about the bigger issues such as Human Rights, have a look at CAAT's website:

https://www.caat.org.uk/

I'll look forward to any feedback about this post.

A.P.
