Hello,

My son, his partner and their 7 month old daughter is using our apartment in Villa Martin. They were at the airport last Monday in Alicante to fly back home after a lovely week when the baby started getting very hot, sweating, limp and then shaking. The airport medical staff assessed her and she was sent straight to hospital. It was the public hospital and the care sadly has been very very poor. They do have health insurance. The baby has been on a drip for two days today been diagnosed with a throat infection and a urine infection. They want to discharge her because of the risk of her catching other hospital bugs because she is so unwell. They are going back to Villa Martin but need to be able to take her to see a doctor if her condition worsens, so worried

Hi

Look here https://cmvcaridad.com/centro/policlinico-cmvcaridad-campoamor/

It's next to Consum in Cabo Roig, and they speak English.

Cheers

If they have travel insurance, they need to ask the insurance company for advice.  They will advise which doctor and hospital, she needs to attend.

Torrevieja Health District is grossly understaffed, because it’s holiday season, with exceptionally long waiting times and have people to go to walk in centres first, San Miguel could be the nearest, see list.

But your insurance to direct you to private healthcare

Hi Shelly,

I'm sorry to hear about your granddaughter being poorly, that must be a terrible worry for all of you.  As your son and family have health insurance, they should contact their insurance company, who should direct them to the Quirón private hospital in Torrevieja, rather than the public Torrevieja University Hospital.  There are many private GPs in the area and, again, your son´s health insurer should direct him to the closest.

Kind regards,

Kim

Shelly59,

I have Salus Health insurance and some weeks ago my wife was very ill so I took her straight to A&E at the Quiron (17 minutes drive from my home in Benijofar). It proved the best plan of action as she was immediately attended to, CT scan and admitted (private room with a big couch where I could sleep on!). In hindsight, seeing a doctor and then getting a referral is a waste of valuable time (IMO) - especially if the patient is quite ill. Sadly, my wife's prognosis is serious............

Best of luck,

Manus
