Dear Forum & Experienced Ex-pats

I am looking for guidance and assistance on the Construction sector and possible Architecture practices within Javea or possible Spanish University's. I am currently a Senior Lecturer in “Architectural Technology” within the School of the Built Environment at John Moores University Liverpool, with approximately 25 years experience within the field of Architecture and Construction. I am also the schools Chartered member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Architectural Technologists which leads the technological design within Architecture, concept, innovation. Additional to this I run my own Architectural practice based within Liverpool. www.keltecconsultancy.com

I am looking to make the move to Spain within the next 24 months for the long term, hopefully having Javea as my home base. Any guidance on websites or areas to look for Jobs within these sectors and Industry, locally or further a field within Spain would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Regards

SLK

Do have a near perfect command of the language because for sure you'll need it for the type and level of employment you're aiming for.

Without it you'll be extremely fortunate to find any work whatsoever, and that does mean ANY.

That's not a put you down, just the way it is.

I can't help but chuckle when so many folks on here lament the loss of freedom of movement - the denial of opportunities for people to live and work anywhere in the EU. Yet it seems no matter what skills people have they are absolutely unemployable unless they have a pefect command of Spanish. Clearly this doesn't apply to entrepreneurs or politicians sitting in Brussels or Strasbourg.

I have two friends who work in Europe, one in Holland and one in Switzerland and neither of them speak the local language. One is in trade finance and the other software testing.

I suppose in truth if the UK's young lose the opportunity to work in Spain it's not really much of a loss given the high unemployment and the often inferred Spanish first employment policy.

That said I wish the OP the very best of luck in his search for work but would suggest he uses something like linkedin to engage with the relevant pan european network groups and recruiters who lurk in such forums.

Ask a University how your qualifications transfer into the Spanish employment market. You may not be able to teach without Spanish language. Most Spanish professionals speak English as the common language. It’s possible you could find employment with a company in Barcelona and work on English speaking projects.

Higher level employment in Spain requires knowledge of English language. In the design and software development industry. It’s part of the job description to speak basic English. I have an AESA drone pilot license. It’s Spanish statute that pilots have level 4 English language.

If you have in demand skills. Native language is not a barrier. Work based language skills can be learned quickly.
