I can recommend: El Secret del Tomate
This restaurant is on the main road from Javea to Gata de Gorgos. It has a bohemian feel and is relaxed and informal. Francisco and his team have a laid back unobtrusive yet professional attitutude and you are not rushed. They have live music on a Thursday and Friday and sometimes will host an ad hoc unadvertised event, last year circus performers and magicians all through the evening for his daughter's birthday. The food is typically Spanish and all the vegetables organically grown by the owner, therefore you never get the same veggies from month to month. They dont really cater for vegetarians (a risotto or salad) but the meat dishes are fantastic, especially the meat platter (for one) at around 18 euros, sounds expensive but you dont need starters or dessert!!! the drinks arent too expensive. If you want a chilled, relaxed meal in a bohemian atmosphere I thoroughly recommend the Tomate. Other great restaurants in the Gata area are The Arraval tapas restaurant, which does an all you can eat tapas menu, great wine (free with meal) whisky tart that has half a bottle to float it and the muscadet is left on the table (while ur under it) for 15 euro a head. For finer dining the Gaucho steak restaurant on the Javea to Jesus Pobre road cant be bettered, although always busy, Menu del noche is around 27 euros but the service is exemplarary and the steaks are excellent - hope this helps - Jeanette
