Please has anyone had a similar problem as myself. I bought a holiday home in Montemar in 2019. I was born in USA of British parents in 1957. I left USA in 1964 when I was 7. Therefore I hold dual Nationality. My bank have blocked my account as I havnt provided a ITIN Tax number for USA although I have never worked in US. My Lawyers have never come across this before so I have had no help from them or my Bank.I live and work in the UK

Thanks Lisa

LL

Aren't they looking for an American Social Security Number? Surely you have one being an American Citizen? ( Dual nationality )

I completed mine recently. I indicated that I wasn't US citizen and put Tax Number of Country I'm resident in.

Hello thanks so much for your reply. My lawyer thought that too. I have been to the bank in Spain twice and gave them my National Insurance number. I have never had a SSN as far as I know. It is to do with Spain and US something called FATCO.I have an appointment at the US Embassy in London next week so I will let you and all know how I get on.  Thanks Lisa

Hi I am both US and UK Citizen maybe it was when I was born there I was dual. It might have changed. Is the Tax no you put your National Insurance number?.I am useless with Tax. My Spanish bank is just not having it. I am applying for what is called an IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).Having a hard time and we dont always understand each other very well. Thanks Lisa

Your Bank obviously assuming you have a US reference/liability eg Nationality/Passport/Birthplace. Did you open your account with a UK Passport or any reference to the US ?

I just put UK NI number on my Form, no US references. I would have assumed all US Nationals/Citizens would have a SS number. The US Embassy sounds like your best bet, eg supplying a relevant Number for the Bank

Hi

We're going through the exact same problem at the moment. Have already been to US Embassy in Madrid so maybe just 1 step further than you.

Complicated to say the least!!
