What will people do if their Antigen test comes back positive?

So Sajid Javid tested positive for Covid using a lamp test which I gather is the same or similar to an Antigen test. We know he's double jabbed and is now isolating but the message we can take from this is that any of us can test positive for Covid despite being double jabbed especially in countries with a high and increasing case/ infection rate.

We know that Spain is within spitting distance of the UK vaccination rates now and as it opens up has seen a very similar infection rate.

Given there is now a real possibility of traveller from the UK failing their antigen fit to fly test what are people planning to do in that eventuality? I guess it's not so bad if you have your own house but if you have a holiday rental or hotel stay where will people go and quarantine until they re test negative?

Are there any reports of people testing positive before they fly back and have had to quarantine?

Yes, it’s happening so often that gov.uk have eventually published guidance.

If you develop COVID-19 symptoms overseas, you should stay indoors, seek medical assistance and follow the advice of the local authorities.

We can help you contact the authorities if you need help to do this. Contact us 24/7 via your nearest embassy, high commission or consulate."

I think Lancelots concern is where will people, who have tested positive and need to quarantine, be accommodated to do so? If they have been staying in a hotel or other holiday accommodation they would technically be in transit and have to find somewhere else to stay for 10 days isolation, and I would doubt any hotel would be looking to take them in?

That's why I asked Lynn whether she'd found different information to that which I quoted from Gov.UK. Advising someone to "stay indoors" if they feel unwell is all very well, but what if a pre-travel Antigen test comes back positive, less than 72 hours before they have to leave holiday accommodation? They won't be able to leave Spain and if they're not sick enough to require hospitalisation, where are they supposed to isolate? The only help from the UK appears to be an offer by the British Embassy to contact the "authorities" on an individual's behalf. So not much help at all. Those of us resident in Spain would probably call 112 and look at Gobierno.es, but would the average British tourist know to do that? 🤷‍♀️

It is a worrying concern, surprised it’s not been flagged up earlier? I agree with you Kimmy in that the average British tourist probably wouldn’t have a clue on what to do once they had vacated their hotel or holiday home….

Interesting that Gov.UK has information in different parts of their website - and not the same information! I think it would be useful to extract the relevant information into a single post in the Tips & Guides section - people won't want to wade through Gov.UK to find that info when they're ill. I'll do it, unless anyone else is happy to do so?

Steve the point of my original post was twofold;

1/ to acknowledge that just because people are double jabbed it doesn't mean you can't test positive when tested.

2/ what are people going to do if you test positive - how are they going to manage the risk of not being able to fly back to the UK.

I'd imagine we are going to hear a lot from people over the next few weeks/ months who fail tests and can't travel home whether jabbed or not.
