Electrician
Does anyone know a good emergency electrician? Can't get the electricity to stay on, keeps tripping. Our fridge and freezer are full 🙈

Hi
See your contract with your electric provider and how much power you have. Maybe the problem comes because you don't have enought power. Example, with 2.2Kw, and you have many electric material; the electric fuseBox jumps each time you use more than 2.2Kw. Think that a pump for pool water uses 1.4Kw, then if you use in the same time other electric devises, the fusebox cut the power.
With electric main switch off, unplug every item you have in the property incl fridge/freezer. With nothing plugged in turn electric on then plug in fridge and slowly add other items you need to be on. This will either tell you if your power is ok and if you have a faulty appiance. If all is OK, no tripping then you need to take heed re VictorEmman,s advice. Electricity in Spain is delivered in lower amounts than UK, ie. 2.2kw, 3.5kw(our power) 5.5kw etc. The more you have contracted the dearer your standing charge is. If you use above your power supply it will cut out, so need to juggle the big appliance users, ie. kettle, washer/dishwasher, electric water heater, electric cooker, toaster etc. Even a vacuum above 1000watts(1kw) and pool pump/ heater if you have one. If you find your power is too low, you may need a rewire(expensive) before you can get your supplier to increase it. Hope this has helped you
Regards
Pauline.

Hi
Are you relatively new to Spain? Are you aware that in your contract, there is an item called "potencia"? In English it translates to "power capacity", or something like that.
My contract says 3.3kw - which means that if I switch on enough appliances to draw more than 3.3kw, the fusebox will trip out. Check what it says on your contract.
The biggest users of electricity are your electric water boiler, oven, Aircon and any electric heaters. The first two alone could exceed 3.3. Your fridge and freezer don't use much once they've hit the right temperature.
When your electric next fails, have a think about appliances that were on at the time.
Hope this helps
Steve

Hello Linda
To discover what is causing the tripping is pretty easy. Go to your switch box and put all of the switches to OFF. Then turn them on, one at a time with a few seconds pause between each switch on. When the trip occurs then you will know the area of problem controlled by that switch. Leave it off and turn on all of the others.. If your switches are not labelled then go around the house and see which items are not working. It could be boiler, fridge, etc. Unplug them all and turn the tripped switch to ON. Then turn on each device in turn which are plugged into the mains with a pause of a few seconds between each turn on. One of the devices will trip and now you know what to replace.
I hope this is clear to you and it is very easy to carry out this procedure. If in doubt then PM me. Best of luck! Richard

9/10 it will be the water heater or oven that is causing the diff to trip. Or could be an outside lght with damp in it.

Thanks to all who replied to my post yesterday. I managed to get an electrician, who was prompt, professional and friendly...Daniel Snell, AMPS Electrical. He quickly found the source of the problem...water leaking from the dishwasher managed to work it's way into a nearby socket! Thankfully nothing spoiled in the freezer.
Thanks again
