Is there a spray for coronavirus?  If so what is it?  You need to tell the world.

The European Centre for Disease Control and Protection (ECDC) publishes details of disinfectants effective against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, but they list them by active ingredient, rather than brand name:

"Disinfectants are classified as biocidal products and are regulated by the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) (EU) No. 528/2012 [7] to ensure that risks are properly assessed before they are placed on the market in EU/EEA countries.

"In general, alcohol-based disinfectants (ethanol, propan-2-ol, propan1-ol) have been shown to significantly reduce infectivity of enveloped viruses like SARS-CoV-2, in concentrations of 70-80% with one minute exposure time.  However, ethanol has not yet been approved under the BPR, so biocidal products based on ethanol are not authorised under the BPR, but are available under transitional measures. Most Member States do not have an authorisation or registration system for the products under transitional measures and, therefore, do not have an exhaustive overview of the disinfectant products on their market."

This probably explains why the UK Government's website talks about how to clean, but generalises in terms of the products to use:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-decontamination-in-non-healthcare-settings/covid-19-decontamination-in-non-healthcare-settings

I'm sure commercial organisations know what they need (our Town Hall has been spraying pavements, kerbs and rubbish bins twice a week), but the authorities don't make it easy for individual citizens to know what to buy.  I thought I'd look at the list of active ingredients on some of the products in my cupboards, to see whether they contain ethanol, propan-2-ol or propan1-ol.  However, very few of them list the active ingredients - the only ones I could find were on a Dettol Antibacterial spray (Formic Acid) and a bottle of Domestos Bleach (Sodium Hypochlorite), so I'm none the wiser - other than SARS-CoV-2 is a virus, not a bacteria, so I assume the Dettol spray wouldn't be effective in this case.

If anyone can find a product with the specified active ingredients, please let us know.  If your cupboards are anything like mine, this should pass at least half an hour of your time - the first 15 minutes spent looking for a magnifying glass to read the impossibly small writing on the bottles! :o)

Best wishes,

Kim

I have always believed that a good quality bleach will kill pretty much everything.  If you can get it Chlorox is good.  It's what cruise ships use when they need to do a deep clean  ie norovirus.  Been there done that.
