House Insurance

Can anyone recommend a house buildings and contents insurance comoany. Can you use a British Insurer for properties in Spain?
I use Towergate ins.co. part of Staysure. I have used Spanish ins co's before but after a total ransacking in 2008 and LaCaixa bank policy refusing a payout (causing us a loss of £20,000 of belongings), I went to Towergate for better cover. They have paid out twice since with no hesitation(1 for hailstorm damage costing 3000€ in 2015 and 1 for a renewal of metal chainlink fencing costing 1800€) I feel more secure as it complies with UK laws, better cover than Spanish law. Hope this helps.

Liberty Seguros - handled by most British insurance agents here - seems to be very well thought of. We use them for house and vehicle; they paid a claim for works and repairs due to internal water damage earlier this year with no problem at all, the money was in our bank the day after we sent them proof that we’d paid the builder. We do, however, use an agent.
