Hi

We are due to complete on an apartment in May. Totally new to the area. Would love for you to share handy hints and tips. Things like broadband providers, home insurance etc. Public transport and nice restaurant recommendations would be great thank you.

Try  DVBLAB. ES  for   Internet   provider, a  English  company   with  many  options  available,   Basic  and  is  19  a  month  for  on/off  service  plus  149  installation , but  other options  are available  with  TV  package   without  installation  fee,

Check  out  Website   click in your  postcode  and  it  will  tell  you  if  service  is available  in your  area  and you will see  list  of  options  and  Costs

I  would  Check  with  your  Solicitors  as  it  normal  with Property  purchase  for  Solicitors  to arrange  Home  insurance,  Solicitors  may  also  arrange  Electrical  supplies  and Water, Electricity  should  be on when  you get  keys  to  your  Property

Hope  you have  many  good  times  in  your  Property

Hi Lynn and welcome to La Florida.

Congratulations on your new home, I hope that you get as much pleasure from it as we have in our 22yrs of ownership, we are on Calle Capricornio.

If you have any questions about the area ( other than above ) then please fire away.

I agree with Sligogent re Dvblab ( as I recommended it to him lol )

Public transport isn't the greatest, there is a small shuttle bus which services the area every 90mins or so, this will take you near to the beach, also to La Zenia Boulevard for shopping and to Torrevieja hospital where you can connect with another bus into Torrevieja.

Personally I use a uk company for my holiday home insurance, probably not the cheapest but easy to deal with, for local insurers have a look in the ads over there >>>>>>>>>>. I certainly wouldn't be asking any Solicitor to arrange it though.

I insure my car with Linda Rowlands who are good, they do house insurance too.

As for restaurants, there are so many within walking distance of La Florida, it would take you a long time to try them all.....but would be great fun. Enjoy.

Hi Ken

Thank you for the info. We are actually in a street right next to you, Mecurio! We are still tied largely to annual leave so not moving full time yet unfortunately. Very much a holiday home for now. We will be hiring a car for now so thankfully not something we need to factor just yet. Regarding the bus, is there such a thing as a timetable by chance, do you know the name of the company so I can have a Google please ? Does home insurance tend to run expensive via the Spanish banks? It’s all so new to us any help is appreciated! Glad you’ve had a lovely experience living there so far. It’s reassuring !

Hi Lynn, not far away at all.

Yes, banks would be quite an expensive option for holiday home insurance, in fact you need to have as little as possible to do with the Spanish banks, they make things very awkward for us non res folk, if you have a Spanish bank account...the estate agents love to open you one, kick back for them, then I would ditch it asap as many of us on this forum have already done.

If you use the search at the top of the page and use words like holiday home insurance, this should pull up other previous posts with more info.

For car hire I would recommend Lara cars or Magnum, these are both off airport Companies who meet you at the airport with your car, no nasty add ons and what they quote is what you will pay, other operators will transfer you to their premises to collect the car but then you pay a transfer fee too,, noooooo. Before I bought my car I tried to avoid the on airport sharks.

As for the bus timetable, there is one but I will have to dig around a little and come back to you, the company is Costa Azul, they run 2 circular routes in our area, a red line and blue line, they meet up in the middle at La Zenia Boulevard where you can switch routes.

Ours is a holiday home too.

Ken

I  done  a bit  of  shopping  around  for  House  insurance  as  said  to  myself  Solicitors  maybe  charging  for  his time no  problem  with  that,  but  some quotes  I got were  slightly more expensive  than  Insurance  Solicitors  were arranging,  as I  informed  Solicitors  that  I  was  going  to try for  Cheaper  quotes,   some  were  lower  but 1  quotes  lower  did  not have cover  to  pay some  of  expenses  of removing  Squatters,   as   it  is  something   the original  poster  should  enquire  about
