Hello,  We are expats (English and USA) who will almost certainly be buying in La Marina shortly.  We have lived for 17 years in Italy so are well used to the expat life.  We are drawn by the better weather and the spanish lifestyle.  We enoy mixing with all nationalities and want to make friends and establish a lifestyle there.  Any advice would be most welcome!

La Marina is a massive conurbation with properties ranging from the near slum to the opulent and a range of people and nationalities to match.

Presumably that suits a great many who have chosen to live there however it's certainly somewhere I wouldn't want to under any circumstance so I'm just saying be sure that it is for you before committing.

That advice stands for wherever you consider settling.

"Near Slum to the opulent " I'd say is a bit harsh ! I take it you know the area well ?? Or are you living in the Roman era ??

I have a home on La Marina Urb and have done for 16 years and for somebody to call parts of it a slum and to say 95% are brits are way out of touch. There are some wonderful houses on the Urb and in the modest street in which I live we have 2 Dutch, 5 Spanish, 2 Brits, 2 Germans.....I think that’s a fair reflection. There is also an array of very good restaurants, especially the grey area which has a Spanish, French, Italian, Indian and other general food restaurants. There’s always free entertainment somewhere and quizzes available plus many community groups. I love it here.

Good for you .. people forget that people have homes there and live there, always quick for a put down , I bet their area is far from perfect too

Thanks for the feedback.  Everybody has a different opinion so it is good to hear whatever that view is. We are building up a picture of the area and will be over next week to put some of our views together.

We are particularly looking at the Urb La Escuera which seems to be a separate area on the edge of the Urb La Marina.  Is there much difference?

Opinions are one thing but there is no need to be detrimental to other people, properties and the area they live in. We have to remember the less fortunate who have to make do with the funds and resources available to them.

Just think.

Totally agree.  No need to post condescending, scathing and downright rude comments!!

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Yeah so you keep saying,  i think we get it now , your wife lived there for 15 years, did she hate living there all that time ? Then you came and rescued her, and now you are virtually Spanish having lived there for a few years, if it's as bad as you say why do you still own a property in the so called ghetto .
