Hello everyone,

Grace and I will be travelling to Spain in March with plans to purchase a property in La Marina.

We are hoping that be posting here we will get some good advise as to where we should look to buy. We have done some research on the area and that has lead us to consider the urb for our new home. Any thoughts and advise will be very welcomed.

Also can anyone recommend a good, English speaking solicitor.

Thank you in kind anticipation

Gil White

In any case do NOT pay anyhting upfront to agents, that money is gone. Take your time, you'll need it. So many things to take into consideration, too extensive to explain here in detail. To get an idea about how much to pay refer to "valor medio de mercado" published every year by the authorities for each and every object and available online here

Thank you so much,

You have kindly taken time to respond to our post.

However, please forgave me if I have gotten this wrong, your words are a little confusing in consideration to our request. I will not be parting with money to any party. But, would appreciate  a little help regarding where to buy and any solicitor that might  come recommend.

Hello

There appears to be about half a dozen estate agents based in La Marina/San Fulgencio area, they would be a good place to start. Have a look at the enclosed link and start from there, they should have good local knowledge of the area and facilities........

. Dont use a solicitor suggested by any estate agent ( there could be a conflict of interests) it is always adviseable to get an independant solicitor who will only be working on your behalf. I cant recommend anyone in that area as I live further down the coast but hopefully, someone who has used an English speaking  solicitor close to the La Marina area might help.

Good Luck with your search

Cheers

If you look at the online Spanish property portal called Kyero, you can parse it down pretty accurately to reflect your requirements, area etc. This should give you a good idea of what is available, price ranges and maybe show you things you’d never considered! You may see the same property advertised several times by different agents, which is a common practice here, but you pays your money and you takes your pick!!!!

You may also find the following websites helpful:

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain for anything bureaucratic

N332 for anything to do with driving in Spain.   It is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people.

When paying a property in Spain , you are required to pay a  small deposit  to secure the property. This takes the property off the market. It’s usually a fee of 3000€

The balance of the deposit (10% of the purchase price)  then has to be paid normally within 28 days.

The post  written by Killjoy is advising  to who this money should or should not be paid. That’s what he means by paying money upfront.

Hi Graham,

Thank you so much.

I am beginning to understand the process a little better.

Would it be wise for me to appoint a solicitor prior to viewings so that all the necessary ground work is in place- NIE number, bank account etc.

kind regards

G
