In my humble opinion, the best tapas bar in the whole area is Bodega Los Carmelos, which is on the road coming out of La Marina village (towards Guardamar).

They have an excellent selection of tapas, plus you can help yourself to wines direct from any one of about twenty barrels for €1 per glass. When you pay the bill at the end of your meal they will ask how many glasses you've had. I would also recommend you ask the lady to do you a dish of patatas for however many people in your group, to accompany your tapas.

The downside of the place is the opening hours. They close lunchtimes at about 2pm and evenings about 8pm, so you have to get in early. We have always booked (booking recommended) for say 12.30 or 18.00 to give us plenty of time to enjoy the event. They don't open at all Saturday evenings or Sunday. Try to book a table in the main bar at the front if you can, as the other room they have at the back is ok, but it's not quite so nice.

Have a look at https://www.facebook.com/Bodega-Los-Carmelos-La-Marina-1682004655388862/

Book as far in advance as you can, especially in high season!

As Geoff says, book in advance. We were 10 people last week, and had to wait 4 days to get a table.

Kenneth, have you had their barbecued lamb platter?

I didn't mention it in my previous comment, because the o.p. was asking specifically for tapas, but if you give them a couple of days' notice, they will do "cordero de la barbacoa", which is a huge tray of lamb cutlets, on top of their lovely potatoes plus peppers, onions etc. It's really lovely, and not as expensive as you would expect. I think it's minimum four people.

Hi Geoff. Haven't tried it yet. We'll be back April 1, so we'll go and try it. Do you remember the price? (approx)

Thanks for the advice.

Sorry Kenneth, but no, I don't, but I do remember being happy with the overall total, and I AM someone who is well experienced in finding good 'value-for-money' in this area of Spain!

You really need to try it, I'm sure you'll be glad you did.

Geoff.
