Hi, We are bringing our dog to La Marina later in the year and wonder if there is a vet that can be recommended nearby please?
Not sure whether you mean La Marina town, or La Marina Urbanisation, but certainly on the Urb, I would recommend San Anton. Their clinic is in the road behind Supa Valu supermarket, which is opposite the medical centre and police station. (as you face the supermarket, it's the road going down the left hand side of it).
San Anton also have a big animal hospital in Guardamar.
Geoff.
Hi we have used San Anton for almost 18 years now, and still do. They are down the left hand side of Super Valu (which is opposite the Police station) on the left towards the bottom :) When they are closed there is a 24 hour one in Guardamar.
Oh just seen the reply above LOL
PS Please do not forget to register the chip on the Spanish Data base, if your dog was lost and it was only registered to a Uk chip they cannot trace as the data bases are not cross referenced. They don´t tell you that in the UK. They certainly didn´t tell me when I was sorting out my dogs passports (maybe they do now).

No, the UK vets do not warn about the different chip readers in Spain. Not that it is really a vet's job. I think the microchip companies need a big kick up the backside! I tried for months to update my dog's microchip to put my temporary Spanish address on it. I failed to make the change even though I have paid £17 for an upgrade so that I can make unlimited changes!
There are universal micro chip readers in the UK. Perhaps they need them in Spain?
On a similar theme the microchip is no proof of ownership only that the "keeper" of the dog has the dog registered to them.
Does anyone have the details of how I register my dog's chip on the Spanish system? Do I just do it at the vet's?
Many thanks for all your helpful information, I presume the vet speaks English?

Yes you just do it at the vets, take the passport and chip paperwork etc they then register it with the Spanish database :)
