I am a English resident and have just moved to La Marina and would like a local bank that I could pop into as I don't want to do on line banking. Can anyone tell me about Bankinter as I went there yesterday and they were too busy. Trilby

Best advice I can give is go online, visiting any Spanish bank is not an enjoyable experience due to queues, communication issues and info that turn out not to be 100% accurate.

And if your a non resident you will be hit with charges and poor exchange rates.

WISE is the way to go.

It may help someone to help you if you said if you are in La Marina the urbanisation (the inland side of the N332 road) or La Marina the town (on the sea side of the N332 road).

What difference does it make if your on the urb or in the village for banking. This appears to be your reply to everyone who asks a question.

I use Bankinter albeit a different branch and find the staff extremely helpful.

If you are an English resident you’ll find the charges fairly low compared  to most other banks. I think when we took out our non resident account it was less per annum  than what the others were charging per quarter.  When we became Spanish residents our only charge is for the debit cards associated to our account.

However Spanish banks seem to operate on a bare minimum of staff, so   if you make an appointment you can jump  the queue.  Something as simple as opening an account can take forever especially as the banks produce lots of paperwork and require endless signatures, Try visiting early morning or in the afternoon.
