Hi barryo

I guess that recommendations will vary depend on what you are expecting from a bank.

Do you want a local branch or are you happy to use online only?

Is it important that they speak English?

Most “walk in” banks in Spain charge, quarterly, for services. These charges can vary, depending on being resident/non resident, taking out additional services, balance average over the year, monthly deposits etc etc.

Members, including myself, will offer differing opinions, based on expectation and personal experience. Personally, I wanted a walk in, English speaking bank and this shaped my decision. 🤪🥂

Hi Barryo

We have opened a Starling personal & Euro account to facilitate our DD's and spending in Spain, we also opened an account with the Sabadell as we required a bankers draft for the property we purchased, they offered home insurance foc to compensate for the cheque although we will close the account after 12 months as there is a 35 euro per quarter charge for the account.

Regards Andrew

I've got a non resident Keycard account with Sabadell. It was very easy to arrange , with my passport. I opened it at my local branch and they sent my card out to my UK address. Very happy with the service so far.

What I would say is to check each bank for their charges as they do vary quite a lot. If you are to become a resident in Spain then, again the charges change. From 1st January, due to Brexit, things change yet again so I would look at what they all have to offer before making a final decision. Also if you have a regular monthly amount transferred from the UK, that reduces the charges. Make appointments with all of the banks and discuss with them what you need.

Hi HansJetty

The charge was 450 euros although we ended up paying 180 euros and free house insurance for the year, to be honest when you way everything up its swings and roundabouts although the solicitors favours a cheque incase anything goes wrong at the notary.

Regards

Andrew
