Hi guys we’re coming over next week. Are shops and restaurants taking cash or do they prefer card?
Cash will be more than welcome.
Cash will always be more than welcome, business's need it to fiddle their taxes!

Shops, restaurants and bars accept both.

Both are fine and not everyone is fiddling their taxes.
Depending on the card you use, and as long as you are paying in Euros, you'll probably get a better rate with a card than exchanging pound notes at the exchange desk.
We use Santander's Zero credit card for purchases & Santander 123 debit card for fee free withdrawals from Santander's ATMs (all at bank rate)

Most bars and restaurants still prefer you to pay in cash. It keeps down their overheads.

Some smaller bars may not have a card machine....
