Many thanks for your reply.

Perhaps you could explain exactly how I open a wise account.im coming out for 5 weeks in Sept and I then can close my Sabadell account, cheers, Graham Richards

Just go on the Wise website, it’s really quick and easy to open an account and provide the verification proof. I’ve been with them for years and it’s easy to add accounts in whatever currency you need. I have pounds, dollars, euros and rupees and it’s easy to add money to any of them. You can even set up a transfer from pounds to euros and set the rate you want and providing you have the pounds in your account it will automatically convert the minute the rate hits your target so no need to keep watching the rates. Highly recommend them.

I fully agree with Kerry about having a Wise account. I've been with them for around 10 years and never had a problem. Money is transferred within seconds to another account.

Please ensure you that your electric and Walter company will except the wise account. We have just moved here and was told they would not except the wise so I opened a Spanish account but sure if the information I got was correct.

I am being ripped off on bank charges by Sabadell! I have a healthy bank balance and really only pay my taxes and utility bills by direct debit.i have tried to change banks but it seems they are operating a cartels and all charge similar fees unless you have your UK pension paid in monthly.I live...

... in UK and although I'm retired it's not a feasible solution for me! IS There any solution open to me to pay these charges without  normal bank account?I don't need the bank card, which they also charge €30 for! It's  complete rip off!!

Open a Wise bank account as previously mentioned, transfer Direct Debits for recurring bills to to be deducted through them.  The process took about 2 months for us and fee-free D/Ds once we had arranged this.  I telephoned Sabadell from the UK to close our account.  Your bank balance should show a Nil Balance before you call them.

Wise also issues a Debit Card however be aware they limit you to 200€ per month withdrawals (use Deutsche Bank for no charges).  You can withdraw mor than 200 but then you will attract charges. When in Spain we use a Nationwide Credit Card (no fees when used in Europe) for purchases and also bring cash with us from the UK for sundry purchases.

I wish ! Sabadell still charge us fees and we have a large amount in the account ! We even went in to ask about removing the fees. We are residents … have enough to buy a second property if we wanted … suggested we could easily find a better deal …but they just said no. !

I don’t get any fees from CaixaBank . And only keep below € 9000 in it.

As many have said open a wise account it's so easy and get all your direct debits transferred also easy to do . I did this and am saving over 200 per year. One thing to remember you must take all of your money out of your Sabadell account before you close it. I did all this and closed the Sabadell account over the phone and am so glad I did.

Good luck 🤞

Well,  Banks are more or less all the same. But sabadell is worse than the worst. I have customers reporting all kinds of bad service and unacceptable expenses. One of them needed an average depósito certificate.

1. You cannot do it yourself online, but the lady in the bank suggested to make it online...

2. Cannot go without appointment,  but when you get one online,  they cancel it without telling you why.

So.. You cannot go with no cita,  but they wont give you one, you should make things online but the app does not offer this activity...

I sent an email,  saying that the certificate neded to be ready on 16.8, that the person would go and collect it without appointment. If not available on 16.8, i would call the Guardia Civil. It was 8 or 9 august.

Received an email infirming that the certificate was going to be ready on 16.8.

Besides all the hassle of writing and calling,  they charged 36 Euro...

Bankinter is wonderful,  always available and ready to help.

Be careful, I´ve got a CaixaBank acct as well but have just been charged €60 for the last quarter as the minimum monthly deposit changed from 700 to 1000 (without anyone thinking to tell me) so i was unaware until the €60 fee was taken at the end of the quarter. Usually they want you to deposit your monthly income (salary or pension) and prove it´s your main account, as well as using it for 2 DDs and using their debit or credit cards 2x a month minimum, do all that and you avoid the fees but really have to keep on top of it and from my knowledge (20yrs) all banks in Spain are very similar.  Accounts like Revolut (and Wise from what people say here) are the only cheaper alternative but also have their drawbacks...

Some utilities companies will only accept a Spanish IBAN account.

The answer is very simple, if you have a Spanish address and an old iPhone 6 or greater [allow apple pay] buy a Spanish pay as you go sim, mine cost 15 euros 10 credit to the account 5 admin including posting to the uk

Then open an account with N26 it’s a German bank but will provide Spanish IBAN account. They have a free account called standard and others at a cost. Similar restrictions on getting cash to wise but I and my wife have wise accounts, so between the three accounts no problem
