Hello All

We opened a Sabadell account in order to purchase in Spain about a year ago and it did not go smoothly.(charges left, right and centre for all sorts of spurious things) we are non resident.

Anyway we got through it and had to purchase their insurance to try and avoid other charges which I can't remember now(it was not the removal of the 40 euro per quarter charge, which we still pay). We have a Wise account and today Sabadell will not recognise the IBAN when I try to transfer money to Wise from my Sabadell account! It seems the Belgian bit is not liked?

So I am in the situation where I cannot transfer any money from my Sabadell account. I have sent them an email and called them but don't feel as if I am getting anywhere. We are due in Spain next week and I am wondering how easy it will be to transfer my direct debits for electric, water, communal fees, IB(SUMA) etc to Wise, and also how to go about closing my Sabadell account.eg. the best way to get my account to zero?

Any help appreciated

regards

I would recommend setting up a N.26 account using their app when you are in Spain, using your Spanish address and your own countries passport as ID. You will get a Spanish IBAN. Visit the websites of Iberdrola, SUMA (or equivalent)  etc to change your utility bank DD details to N.26. Transfer all your Sabadell money to N.26, then visit your Sabadell branch and ask them to close your account. This should all be doable in a couple of days. You may well be able to do this with Wise but I've read that some Spanish utilities will not accept non Spanish IBANs even though this is illegal. If you do the above you will get totally free banking other than a €10 charge (optional) for a physical debit card. Cash withdrawals from N.26 are free from any machine up to 3 (I think) times per month.

Certainly finding this helpful, although it rankles somewhat that my Wise account is up and running and what Sabadell, etc are doing is illegal!

I wish ! Sabadell still charge us fees and we have a large amount in the account ! We even went in to ask about removing the fees. We are residents … have enough to buy a second property if we wanted … suggested we could easily find a better deal …but they just said no. !

That seems wrong they should waive the charges.
