Hi everybody, I am having a problem with closing my Movistar account and was wondering if anyone has had this issue and could possibly offer any advice.

I called at the Movistar shop in Torrevieja to close my account as I have found them very expensive, after waiting over half an hour to speak to the assistant she just told me I had to ring 1004 to cancel, when I phoned this number the 'lady' very rudely said I do not speak English and put the phone down on me. I feel I am now in a catch 22 where I need to phone them but they will just keep putting the phone down.

                             Thanks guy's

There is a very simple answer to that...

Ask someone who speaks Spanish to phone on your behalf,  either a neighbour or ask a local translator to help which will cost you about €20.

You shouldn't expect that everyone understands English.

Thanks for your help Steve but I explained to the lady in the shop my Spanish was poor to say the least and she said it was not a problem just tell them you cannot speak Spanish, I certainly do not expect everyone to be able to speak English

You didn't get very good advice though....

"when I phoned this number the 'lady' very rudely said I do not speak English and put the phone down on me"

Even though I have lived here some years I still take a Spanish speaker with me when conducting any business (especially medical)

Hi

I offer you a little tip that worked for me and others.
Dial 1004 and when the recorded announcements begin keep saying “English”’ into your phone. If you keep saying it over and over for about 6 times it will transfer you to an English speaking operator who will deal with your cancellation in a few minutes. Remember you will also have to return your modem to your nearest Moviestar dealer quoting the cancellation number you have been given over the phone.

I would suggest going somewhere a bit private to make the phone call as repeating English over and over again may lead to some funny looks!!!
