https://laracars.com/

They are a small independent company, as are Coys

https://www.coysrent-a-car.com/

And Edi

https://www.edirentacar.com/

All 3 are small local companies frequently recommended on this site

Ok thanks. Will have a look on the websites

Hi, I am coming out the end of September and I always use Record car hire, they are in the airport and provided you book “Total Comfort” package other than the fuel there are no surprise charges on your credit card or when you take the car back. It’s 100% covered for every eventuality. You ...

...just drop the keys and walk.

This year I have noticed that the charges are much higher than normal, probably down to Covid I expect. If you join the Record Car club you get further discounts. It’s free to join and can be done from their home page.

https://www.recordrentacar.com/en/

Hope this helps

Hi please be careful when hiring a car from Alicante Airport,I booked a car in July  through Doyouspain paid car insurance via Zurich Insurance.

We were directed to Gold Car they would  not recognise the insurance with Zurich, I paid just over £1100 deposit instead of their €180 insurance for 8 days.

The rental car was returned with no damage, 5 days later my deposit was returned minus €180, highway robbery. How can they make you pay a deposit of £1100 yet still charge you €180 for car insurance you did not want.

Gold car are not replying to my e mails & Zurich Insurance are fighting to get my €180 back.

I carnt believe how much prices for car hiring in alicante Airport has gone up in the past year and a half since I last hired one?

Any advise or help would be much appreciated

There used to be a dedicated Facebook group ‘don’t use goldcar’ detailing customers tales of woe…

I used Goldcar about a month ago.  Pick up was fine, but drop off not so good.   Long queues to drop key and paper work. This resulted in my not staying around to inspect the car.

I had used my mobile phone as a sat-nav to get to the airport and forgotten it sat in the cupholder.  Rude man working as car 'checking' staff, tried to wave me to a different drop- off space because I parked next to where he was checking a car. As a result, I forgot to pick up my phone when I locked the car and dropped the keys off. Due to waiting linline for 45mins and leaving the keys with them because I couldn't wait any longer, I was not present when this guy checked it in.

My phone was not handed in [ I rushed back within the hour to get it], it was 'locked inside' with only Goldcar staff taking charge of the car.

I also had 51.58 euros added to my bill, saying the tank was not full.  I filled it to the maximum before driving to the airport.  I had spent £600 for a three week hire, to find I was overcharged and my phone was stolen.  Long queues makes the drop off impossible if you have a flight to catch, so that you can't check your car.  On pick up they don't come with you to check the car over for existing dents/ petrol level; you have to return to the desk and wait in line if you find a fault and want to record that, you also must take a photograph.  Seems to me that Goldcar have a game going of charging extra for fuel and understaffing the desk and check in area to facilitate capitalising of customers being under pressure of tme both taking a car out or returning it.

Same old I’m afraid…
Once bitten twice shy.

If we were in the States we could all initiate a class-action lawsuit but difficult in Espana I’m sure…

Allow more time to drop off , takes videos off car at pickup point,  pay more so you don't have to leave deposit , they are all cowboys at alicante airport.

Unfortunately it seems people do not accept peoples views and advice on these car hire cowboys, how many times do folk have to be warned about certain companies at the airport ripping you off and yet still go ahead and use them?

I agree...we used goldcrest once and they took money off our card because the said the fuel was only half full and we filled the tank just outside alicante airport.........we had a long battle with them but when we insisted on seeing a receipt for the fuel they put in the car they refunded our money.  The service generally at the airport desk was awful each time they gave us the location to pick up the car it was wrong and we had to keep going up and down to the car parks with all our suitcases.?...never again .......we were happy to see their offices in torrevieja closed down.
