Hi. I know this has been asked before but I cannot see a clear answer.

For valid, personal reasons, my son is unvaccinated. He has recently had Covid and made a full recovery. Proof of his positive test is on his NHS record.

The current guidance states that an unvaccinated person can travel to Spain from the UK, provided they provide proof of recovery from Covid within the last 6 months. This proof must be in the form of a recovery certificate. However, finding out exactly where to get such a certificate that is guaranteed to be accepted by the Spanish authorities is proving impossible. I've checked so many websites and none are clear on exactly what certificate or issuing authority is acceptable to enter Spain.

So my question is: has anybody on this forum entered Spain unvaccinated, using a certificate of recovery?  If so, what certificate did you use, who issued it, and how to you go about obtaining one? I've seen a number of providers who offer recovery certificates, but all of them provide a disclaimer that it may not be accepted for entry in certain countries.  So I'm looking for someone who has is unvaccinated and has actually used a recovery certificate to enter Spain.

Thanks in advance

The acceptance of a U.K. recovery certificate to enter Spain is a fairy new regulation, but you can find the information confirming what you require and how to obtain the cert on the U.K. gov website

Looks as though it’s a download similar to the proof of vaccination.

Thanks. That is much appreciated. I have read through both of those links, which confirms what I've been told. However, both refer to a "recovery certificate issued by a relevant authority" as being acceptable for entry, without being more specific. Unfortunately I cannot see anywhere how you can actually get such a certificate of recovery, or who in the UK issues it. I can find no links for obtaining a recovery certificate on any of the NHS websites or apps.

If anyone has successfully done this I'd love to be able to benefit from your experience.

Thanks.

The gov.U.K. Website links to the following page to get a digital covid pass

This NHS site shows your covid status whether you’ve vaccinated or had covid in the previous 180 days and therefore produces a covid pass which generates this information into a QR code which is suitable for travel purposes. Make sure you choose a travel covid pass as opposed to the domestic option.

Or alternatively you can phone to get a copy

Thanks Lynn. Unfortunately, that link is to obtain a Covid pass for someone who's been vaccinated.  There is no guidance on how an unvaccinated person can get a proof of recovery certificate, or a link to download such a certificate, so I'm still stumped.

Hi Lee, have you tried phoning 119 and asking them for advice? They should be able to tell you how to get the certificate for your unvaccinated son.

Aitch.

The link shows how to obtain a covid passport . This record shows whether you been vaccinated and/or had covid recently.

If you follow the instructions instead of it showing how many vaccinations a person has had, it shows that the person had  a positive covid test  less than 180 days ago and then generates the recovery QR code

Ah. That explains it. Thank you so much. So basically you can get a Covid pass either by being vaccinated, or by showing recovery - it's basically one and the same pass, obtained from the same place (albeit issued on the basis of Covid recovery, not vaccination).  I shall pass that on to my son. Thanks again.

I’m not sure if you are there yet Lee - how do you prove recovery within 180 days in a way that I’d acceptable and how close to your fly date can you do this e.g. if your son gets an antigen test today which presumably proves current recovery and using that obtains a QR but you are not going for another month will the code still be valid?

Hi Archie. That is the key question. I am told that 10 days after registering a positive OCR test on the NHS Covid19 app, your records update so that you can download a Covid pass and QR code, in exactly the same way as you would after being fully vaccinated. I have also been informed by the NHS helpline that this Covid pass, along with the NHS confirmation of a positive PCR test, will be sufficient evidence to satisfy Spanish entry requirements.

We haven't tested this yet because the 10 days have not elapsed. But even then, my son will not know if this is acceptable until he arrives at the airport.  That's not ideal, and it's the reason why I'd really love to hear from someone who is unvaccinated, who has actually entered Spain recently using proof of recovery, rather than proof of vaccination. But I just can't find anyone who has had first hand experience.
