Hi.we own a lovely holiday home on fase1 la marina urb.we come over twice a month on average and always hire from the airport...this is great until a little spanish man reverses into me or I have an argument with a high kerb grrr. ...then it's costly at the airport on return..so we are thinking of driving a UK car out in Jan 18....1385 miles driving between me and the wife is £200 approx in fuel...seen a ferry crossing single dover-calais £40 so it's just motorway tolls, any idea how much if we drive motorway all the way...2nd option is to have it brought over on a truck approx £600....also we will leave it at the airport everytime we fly home so need a good airport parking deal.....lastly and sorry it's an epic, when we have to transfer it to spanish plates, how is this calculated....cc size, diesel emissions or a.n.other.....still think this way will be cheaper as a car costing £1000 UK is €4/5 thousand euro in spain.....ideas and advice please....phil and helen

We did the journey from Cherbourg to La Zenia in May this year, you are in the right ballpark for the fuel figure. Sticking to the motorways, which are less busy and easy for driving compared to other roads, the tolls charges were around 65 euros in total. I would suggest you look at the Via Michelin website, put in your start point and arrival point and it will calculate your exact route with all roads and motorways to use, plus tell you were and how much the tolls are. When we made the journey as I was the sole driver we took our time and broke the journey up with overnight stops at budget hotels prebooked before setting off, use the likes of Trivargo or Booking.com to find the best deals.

You'd definitely need to transfer the car to Spanish plates, but you'd be very brave if you took it on yourself. I suggest you sent full details of the car to the expert, including whether it's been modified in any way, and ask him for an idea of the cost:

Additionally, an item that is often overlooked if you are driving through France to Spain is the need for a European Travel Kit. These can be obtained from the likes of Halfords or you could check out Amazon for a selection of options. These kits are required by law and you could face a heavy fine if you are stopped and do not have the items. These include a GB sticker on the rear of your vehicle, headlight deflectors for driving on the other side of the road, hi-vi vests for each passenger, red warning triangles, a basic first aid kit and in France you must have a Breathalyser kit.

Hi.

I have a cheap Spanish runabout for you. PM me.

Lot cheaper than putting your UK car on Spanish plates.
