Hi all if registering a UK vehicle on to Spanish plates dose the vehicle have to have an in date MOT to change the vehicle.

I have a motorbike trike on UK plate but the MOT is out of date by 2 years is it possible to get it registered to Spanish without an indate MOT .

Thanks for any help on this matter

It doesn't need to be MOT'd, it will have to be ITV'd as part of the transfer.

Is it EU homologated?

There is a place in Pilar de la Horadada run by an English chap called Viking prestige motorcycles that used to import bikes and trikes from the UK, it may be worthwhile having a chat with them.

You'll definitely need specialist advice as anything that is 'non standard' can be very difficult to transfer.

It would most probably need an independent inspection which the Spanish do (at cost) in Murcia, most non standard vehicles have to go through this process. It can be both lengthy and costly. The transfer rules have recently changed and taxes have been increased for imports so check this before you go ahead.

I would definitely try the trike specialist previously posted, also you could try

Speak to Leigh, they are specialists in this area.

If it was manufactured by a recognised manufacturer in would have a Certificate of Conformity and this would make things easier.

As it is, you would have to register it as a standalone vehicle. This will, at the very least, require a report from a qualified (in Spain) engineer and inspection by the relevant DGT office.

Nothing is impossible if you throw enough money at it and I suspect that might be the case here.

If there's a bike shop near you, Spanish run, it would be worth having a chat with them to get their opinion.

This could be an issue, if it's not EU homologated it can be very difficult to get it registered.

Are you planning on registering it yourself or using a professional?
