Does anyone know if the rules of Brexit announced on 1 January 2021 have changed in the last couple of days.  I heard on the BBC news yesterday that UK residents with a holiday home in Spain can only visit for ONE month in six months.  I understood it to be 90 days in 180 days.  Also that you must have a Spanish driving Licence iif you have no residecia.  Again I understood you could use your UK driving licence with a yearly International Licence purchased from the Post Office in UK which I already have.  Any comments would be useful as I have just bought a villa in La Marina as a holiday home and was hoping to spend more than 2 months a year.  Bernard

BBC not to be relied upon. I haven’t seen anything that says there has been a change with regards to staying 90/180 in the Schengen Zone. With regards to the driving licence you don’t need a Spanish driving licence if you are not resident in Spain. I subscribe to regular free updates from Gov.uk. This mornings update is still showing 90/180 and is also advising what food & drinks you can’t take into Spain. Don’t worry enjoy your time in La Marina once travel is permitted.

Regards Anne

I would not trust or believe anything the BBC say, as you say its still 90 days per 180 days and your UK licence is fine,

90 Days is 3 months. You can stay up to 3 months out of 6 months. Regards, Susan Lawson

The 90 days rule is a rolling figure of 90 in 180, so if you dont use all 90 in one visit the figure of what's left rolls on, there are calculators online which help you manage the days:

Thank you, we are now retired now so will be spending longer times in Spain. The 90 day option is fine for us. We have 4 grownup children who like to visit with their   families,, will they have to be included in the 90 days or can they come separately? Susan

What I meant was do they have to stay in our 90 days while we are there? or can they visit on their own after the 90 days 😃

Every UK  resident has their own individual 90 days in a rolling 180 days that they can individually stay in the EU.   The 90 days are counted from the date their passport is registered on their arrival on EU soil.  Their visits can overlap with yours or be at completely different times.
