Yes you can take a chance and you're unlikely to be stopped as you leave Spain.

However, make sure that you're out of Spain for at least 90 days before you return. It's incoming UK passport holders that are being checked based on out going dates. The immigration have have more time to check on incoming passports and less pressure than with outgoing flights......Do you feel l...

Thank you for that info. I think I will keep to the 90 days. I have a Irish passport but unless you have applied for residency, it seems that you have to keep to 90 days. I stand corrected as I have been given so much conflicting information. Possibly tax can also be affected and have to stay for six months?!

With an Irish passport you can register with Spanish immigration, like the UK passport holders pre Brexit, and stay longer than the 90 days.

However, you are correct in identifying possible tax issues if staying longer than 183 days. Could be quite expensive depending on circumstances.

Thank you. I didn’t know how many days before tax is affected. That is very helpful and when I return soon will look into.

I don’t really understand your initial post, which was about the 90/180 rule for  U.K. passport holders.

You now say you have an Irish Passport

 U.K. is a third country

Ireland is EU

Two complete different sets of rules  apply

I needed to find out for a UK passport holder (my husband) and an Irish pass holder (myself). I had been told that I could only stay 90 days even on an Irish passport unless I applied for residency. I’m still a little concerned about the 183 days, but will contact Spanish passport office or embassy to check there are no other pitfalls. In UK the insurance companies don’t like you going out of the country for more than four weeks! House and health and I think car all want you back before four weeks is up! Travel insurance charge a lot more if you stay over four weeks!
