Hi my wife and myself are British  and we both have TIE Spanish residency cards,

we plan on having a trip in our motor home to England, and we have been told various amounts of time travelling through Spain and France and staying in the UK, and returning back to Spain,

One answer has been a total of 3 months including driving  entering UK and returning back to Spain,

The other has been 6 months as above,

as our passports are not stamped being Spanish residents, just wondered if anyone knows the exact time frame,

Thanks for any help Brian.

The maximum permissible time out of Spain can vary widely depending on how and when you obtained residence.

In all cases though the 90 day rule will apply in other EU countries you may visit.

Although your passports may not get stamped do not mistake that to mean there will be no record of you leaving or entering the Schengen area, the act of scanning them ensures that there is.

You may find the contents of the link below helpful. However, it is always best to follow official Spanish Government guidance rather than third party. As the previous poster has noted you must bear in mind you will still be subject to othe EU country entry rules when passing through or staying.

This is a potentially interesting conundrum...

I've been a Spanish fiscal resident since 1989. (Now I have the correct TIE card)

I still have my UK passport and I am not a Spanish citizen.

In the last 12 months, I have returned to the UK two times.

On both occasions, my UK passport was stamped on exit from Spain by at the airport.

On both occasions, my passport was NOT stamped on re-entry TO Spain at the airport.

Could the Spanish authorities therefore conclude I have been out of Spain and NOT re-entered the country???

(I checked the link supplied above and there's no info on this point.)

Thank you for your reply,

Very interesting, the last time I briefly went back to UK i showed immigration my TIE card and my passport was not stamped.

Brian.

Hi Norrimac,

As a Spanish resident, your passport should not have been stamped when you left Spain.  To ensure this doesn't happen again, hand the border guard your TIE card, as well as your passport.  In any event, as a Spanish 'permanente' resident, you can leave Spain for up to 2 years without voiding your residency.

Kind regards,

Kim
