We too live in Oasis and love it. We moved to the urb after living in the campo near several Spanish towns  for 11 years and also loved that life but decided to move to an urbanisation where we could walk to facilities as we are both in our seventies and will not be able to drive for ever. There are lots of villages to vist within a short drive or taxi ride and supermarkets enough to supply the necessary shopping. Life is what you make it after all, and  I cannot believe  all the vitriol on this topic.

Just for information by the way, I was told that the urb is approx 50% Spanish nowadays. I expect I shall get shot down in flames for that remark.

Don't we put off by the bitterness expressed by some people, the rest of us are used to it.

I know everyone has an opinion but when words like slums, Europe's biggest council estate and ghettos get bounded about i think its wrong,  its peoples lives and homes !! They have obviously worked hard to get a place they love and are happy where they choose to be. Apologies if anyone thinks my comments are nasty or whatever but thats just how I feel !!

By the way there is a great contrast between living on the urb and living in the village of La Marina which is very good or living down by the beach at El Pinet where you have the best of both worlds - glorius beaches and restaurants and the village is only 20 minutes walk with its shops, banks, pharmacy etc.

We live on the Urb. We have not experienced anything like RayD thankfully. We have Spanish and English, french and German neighbours. We practice our Spanish on our neighbours and our good friends who are also Spanish. We have used Spanish builders and other suppliers and everything has been first class. If you want to live a very British life in the sun it can be done here or you can choose to frequent the Spanish owned restaurants and bars or a mix of both. Property is very affordable and the recent amazing community spirit shown here after the devastating floods in nearby villages made us very proud to be resident here. Life is what you make it, we would recommend la Marina Urb personally and would be very happy to answer any questions you may have. By the way 5 min drive away some superb sandy beaches not backed by high rises, hotels etc, bliss

I/we previously owned a property in urbanization La Marina many years ago.   I/we sold it in 2007 as we realized that a car was necessary to get around. We had many great holidays there and met some great people of all nationalities there. We have now put a reservation on a property in Calle Clemente Gosálvez in Torrevieja which is well serviced by buses and suits our needs better. RESPECT your neighbors wherever you live/buy.

Wow! I am amazed at the description some of the responders have given of La Marina Urb, and have to say that this is no where near my appraisal of the area.

Firstly, in the cul-de-sac in which we have our house, there are 2 x German families, 3 x Spanish families, 1 x Icelander, and a Welshman (me)!. And surrounding our house are the homes of 7 Spanish families

Secondly, the “value-for-money” in regard to property allows your money to go much further in property style and size. Our house is detached, has a pool, and is situated in an area that has a 12 minute walk to the Consum Square Centre, 10 minute walk to the Super Valu area, and a 15 minute walk to the Dialprix area (and near the “posh” and “sports centre” swimming pool) - all have restaurants, bars, banks and supermarkets of all nationalities

And the Urb is located in a close driving distance to beautiful beaches and towns of Santa Pola, Guadamar, La Mata, etc - there are great golf courses nearby too - we have also discovered some lovely outlying villages.

The only thing that dismays me is the focus some folk have on the “not so good” bits of the Urb. Why is that..... I wonder?

So, in summary - I thoroughly enjoy the area, and would be delighted to show you around.

We have a place PUNTA Prima, after having moved from Villa Martin. We’ve down sized so that we are closer to everything. We have lots of bars and restaurants within 2 or 3 minutes walk and the beach about 8 minutes walk and I’m a slow walker. Our urbanisation is fab. There’s People from uk Spain, Norway, Holland, Denmark, Germany and we love the multicultural living. We have supermarkets and loads of other stores just over the main road a few minutes walk away too. Great bus service so we don’t need to drive here!

I guess the advice is give make sure it’s the right location and that in winter there’s places still open.

Good Luck!

Ann
