We are uk residents and all our flights have been cancelled. We need to get back to uk from alicante

ALSA operates direct buses from Alicante to Madrid Airport. If you choose the train, make sure your ticket (to Madrid Chamartin) includes a voucher free of charge for the commuter train "cercanias" to the airport. This voucher must be stamped in a cercanias ticket booth before boarding the commuter train - a bit stressing. Same procedure if you prefer Barcelona instead.

We came back last Thursday 7.30am train to Barcelona Metro to airport BA flight to Heathrow then Hertz hire car to Preston but I think flights now in the morning so the only option to do it in one day would be the 6am train to Madrid you can check if flights/trains are running on the Brits in Spain Facebook page there is something on there from British Embassy.

Also you will find that, in addition to having to get to Alicante Railway station to start with, the flights only go to Heathrow at the moment so wherever you live in the UK, you will then have to find your way home from there.
