I was hoping to find a verified company that can come and remove weeds from our garden.  The problem we have are deep rooted reeds and as I understand it, we need someone licensed to spray them with strong chemicals.  We have two dogs, so it is of the utmost importance that this is done by a trustworthy person or company.  Many thanks in advance of any recommendations.

There's 2 types of weed killer you can purchase from a local garden centre but in much smaller quantities than what a professional registered Gardening Company can get.

The first type can only be used if there is any 'green' of the weed showing.  It burns the weed immediately but doesn't kill the root.

The second type kills the root but takes a few days to work.

However, with both types, they do not destroy the weed to the point of making it disappear.  If you have long growing weeds it will kill it but you will still need to pull it out the ground after.

Having done gardening for the past 6 years and used various types of weed killer on numerous types of ground, I found the best and most effective way to get rid of them was by physically getting on my hands and knees and pulling them out.  Very time consuming but gets the job done.

Weed killer won't prevent the weeds from growing elsewhere.

With blessings

Many thanks for your reply.   Each time we are here, we have been clearing them and putting salt on them, which worked to a degree.  But on our recent return here, it is now the worst we have seen.

I have taken on board your advice, as even the smallest amount of root will mean they return.

White vinegar, salt and a good dash of washing-up liquid.

The amount of rain we have had following years of drought will be the reason they have grown so well this year.

  • Cut the reeds down and cover the stumps with a strong, impermeable tarp. This will smother the rhizomes and kill them. Burn the cuttings.
  • Salt is bad for the soil.
  • Or call in professionals.
