This morning my husband left LandA law and noticed a car, an old grey Passat, follow him all the way home. As he pulled up a Spanish girl, mid twenties approached. She acted as an old friend with hugs etc. She tried to get his watch. He pushed her away and escaped into our gate. The Passat was parked around the corner and he saw the girl and driver speed off.

No doubt our UK number plates have attracted them (we will be changing!) But please everyone be aware.

Unfortunatley, he didn't get the reg number.

Be careful out there.

Sad to say since moving here in July we have had two wallets stolen and now this :(

This is all too common these days. It's just a matter of time until they prey on the wrong person who puts them in the ground. I cant stand people who prey on the vulnerable like that. I hope they're caught and sent down.

Hi Lynne and Nick,

So sorry to hear about your experience.  I think you're right about the number plates, they probably assumed that you're holiday makers, not wise to their tricks.  We usually see similar reports from Ciudad Quesada, so it must be La Marina's turn this week.  I think Brits are generally polite and helpful, and don't go around expecting the worst to happen, so very kind of you after such a horrible experience to take the time to warn the rest of us.

Kind regards,

Kim

Many thanks for your reply Kim. We are beginning to wise up! Wont let it dampen our new life in Spain. :)

Obviously this kind of robbery relies on the victim being a man with the fact that a female approaching him is, in general, less of a threat than the other way round.

Similar happened to my friend Simon in the Torrevieja Friday market where a female got close to him, held his hand briefly whilst saying something about the possibility of marriage!!

A few seconds later, recomposed (and still a bachelor), my friend noticed a much valued ring, even more so for sentimental reasons, gone from his finger.

Opportunitists just love the unwary.

Hi Janet,

Would like to say "that's shocking!" but sadly, beginning to learn its not uncommon. We all just have to be on our guard.

Thank you for sharing your friends awful experience.

Lynne

So much for "tis the season to be jolly" - my friend had her purse stolen in the card shop/post room in Benimar yesterday morning.  She discovered it gone when she went to buy her food shopping immediately afterwards.  She went straight to the bank to cancel her cards and by the time she got home, the police were at her gate with her purse - bank cards still in it, but €240 cash gone. She thought she was covered for loss of money on her insurance - she is, but only if it's taken with violence.

I suppose muggers, pickpockets, thieves and shoplifters want a nice Christmas too - but at the expense of honest folk.  It seems we all need to be extra vigilant at this time of year 😔
