I've always booked my car through email-car-hire.com and collected the car from the Record Cars desk - has anyone tried to

book with them recently? The website is still open but doesn't seem to be accepting bookings for 2018?

Many thanks.

We have a car from Record care hire and are taking it back tomorrow (Tuesday) or Wednesday. I shall tell them there is a problem with their agents site.

A lot of people use the brokerage company called DO YOU SPAIN.COM. It’s a simple page to navigate. You will see the prices starting from their smallest vehicles right up to the high end. Don’t be tempted to take their offer of insurance as the car hire firms will still insist that you take their insurance which you are not obliged to take if willing to risk 3rd party only. The normal practice is to hold up to €1200 incase you should have an accident. If you choose not to pay for the extra insurance, please take photographs of the car before leaving and again when you return the car as most of these firms are charging people for damage which they never caused.....we have been caught on two occasions. The last time was with CLICK RENT who took €150 off our card after we had returned the car undamaged. The amazing thing was that we had paid for their CLICK RELAX INSURANCE and still they insisted that they had the right to charge us for some fictitious damage, we contacted the disputes team from the credit card company and got our money back.  All in all, if you take pictures before and after, you should be alright.

Good luck and enjoy your visit to Spain.

Thank you Grannyrose for your recommendation, advice and good wishes.

I'll take a look at the website.I'm afraid that old habit die hard - we've always collected our car from the Record desk for the past 11 years and I hope that Heatray's enquiries may shed some light on the agent's website.

We've taken out the additional insurance for the past 10 years - it may have worked out a little more expensive in the long run   but for peace of mind, it means that we don't have to inspect the cars or take pictures etc.

I remember a while ago when Spanish roads weren't as good as they are now car hirers being stung for 'damage' to the underside of vehicles and drivers being unable to prove that they didn't cause it. I think things have changed somewhat now for the better.

I'm not going out until the beginning of March but I'll let you know how I get on!

We generally hire from Record too. You can book Record through Do you Spain.com. Like yourselves,we always take their insurance as it saves a lot of hassle and worry. Check out the prices on that website and see how well they compare. Please let me know if yours is still better and cheaper!

Hi - just got back from airport. I had a word with Record Rentals and after several minutes explanation (!!!!!) and they gave me their website address - www.recordrentacar.com and their prices are just as good as any agents.   Good luck.

Do you spain are pure bandits, they just a broker skimming their cut off the top and ZERO use if you have a problem. Better off with a beach donkey and a carrot than use them

I checked the Record website and believe me when I tell you that they have made some serious price changes since I last looked at it. I was amazed and delighted!  They have wised up and probably will have no use for brokerages like do you spain in the future. As a bonus, I logged into  ClubRecord using my membership that I joined some time ago and booked our hirecar cheaper than with do you spain. Being a club member,I get Express checkin! Sounds too good to be true but that is what they promise so more more queuing for ages.

So, thanks for setting me straight. I cancelled our booking with Do you spain and went straight to Record and booked for the same duration and paid half the price.

Many thanks Heatray for making the enquires and to everyone who's replied.

I'll go straight to the Record website too - the only downside now is that their queues will probably end up being even longer than usual !!
