Hi my second day on La Marina Urb I was waiting for the uk government to confirm my pension WASPI was to commence. It was my 66 th Birthday. Not knowing anyone on the urb, I treated myself to a bottle of cava. Sadly like many of us NO contact from government. 😡To distract myself I took my moving in rubbish bags to the bin's at bottom of my Parque. Dirt road. Not excuseing my foolishness but 3 police cars pulled me over. Think they were training new recruits 🤷 Anyway lost my license for a yes n massive fine. Went to court bla bla bla. Can anyone tell me what happens next? Apparently I have to attend four days of 6 hours education. I haven't a clue where when or if I will need interpreter etc. Or how to get to WHERE??? My court lawyer despite speaking perfect English explained NOTHING. Been licking my wounds, but I'm now needing to get information together........ Sadly no wheels has meant I've been VERY restricted to make new friends and get help. I'm also close to being disabled which hasn't helped my getting out n about. I'd love to hear from anyone who has had to go through the process to regain the right to drive. Maz

Just a shame they didn't lock you up for 6 months or more, or even better send you back where you came from. Absolutely no excuse for drunk driving.

"Very helpful member" eh?

I think that the OP has demonstrated some humility and is now asking for help, this for an unfamiliar situation in an unfamiliar land.

To the OP. Sorry I can't help you but I'm sure you've learned your lesson, you're not the first and won't be the last.

You say you had a solicitor who spoke good English representing you. Can you not arrange an appointment with this solicitor and ask them to explain everything in greater detail including how to move forward?

I found this information while searching Google:

" If you have lost your licence, then you won’t be able to regain it until you sit a road awareness and reeducation course, which will last 24 hours in total. You will also have to take your driving theory test again before your licence can be reissued. This can be done in English, but as Manilva resident Matt Trigel explained to Euro Weekly News, “the theory exam is in english but to be honest some of the questions didn’t make any sense as the translation is poor sometimes.” Another resident, Michelle Vaugn also said that, “the whole process is expensive and not very easy at all”.

This above was taken from this link:

The following link will also provide greater detail:

Can you lose your license while driving a mobilty scooter? If that's the case the court could earn a fortune in La Marina. Half og those in cars and mobilty scooters after 11pm are more or less intoxicated.

This reminds me of an incident I encountered 20+ years ago when working as a police officer and we arrested someone for drunk driving because they were well and truly sloshed while on their horse and cart down a relatively main road in the centre of Durham.

Apparently, there isn't such an offence - but as the Custody Sergeant found out, the offence was covered by the Licensing Act 1872 which makes it offence to be drunk in charge of a horse / horse & carriage etc).

That arrest is one that certainly sticks in the memory.

I've no idea re Spanish law but this in the UK:

Hello Mazda, you don't say where abouts on La Marina you live but,[ with the odd exception!],  it is a friendly place and there are a couple of coffee mornings you could go to if you'd like to meet new people.

One is at Bar 13 on a Monday morning at 11 am, the other is at Sam's Bar, on the back terrace,  on Thursdays at 11 am.

Bar 13 is opposite San Anton Vets, close to the medical Centre, Sam's Bar is in Consum Square opposite Consum.

There are also local Facebook pages if you use Facebook, which advertise events, quizes etc

Here's one ...   La Marina Info and Living | Facebook

I moved here a year ago and have gradually made friends through these pages.

Good luck

Maria

Oh Bless you...... Ironically each place said BAR 😂as in the enemy that put me in this position. I am getting there slowly and really appreciate your positivity, rather than some very unkind feedback. AT LAST it's getting cooler, July n August where really tough with No-one to help me and even though I reached out to the Church, Samaritans, Calm and others I really felt like I may not survive. Thankfully I have a dog and a cat, SO that meant I'm still here..... AND gradually getting to know people......Xxxx

Hi Mazda, yes both your replies were within thread of the original message that you posted, not private, but that doesn't matter. Having pets is good it gets you out of the house.

Have a look at the link I sent and try the coffee mornings if you're anywhere near those venues.

Also look at the Facebook pages for K9 charity and La Marina Street cats, they both have quizzes and other events to raise funds.
