Hello all, looking for advice,

I have heard of people getting high import charges from the uk to Spain for certain goods now brexit has been done,

I need some items for my bathroom totalling only £84 that I can only get from the uk, has anyone got any idea or thoughts on this?

Cheers for ideas!

Hi,

This is currently a bit of a minefield.

Some members of the forum report packages getting through without any problems, however it is highly likely that if it is picked up by customs you will be charged duty and VAT, on both the cost of the goods and P&P + a handling charge.

My wife ordered some dress making fabric from the UK at Christmas, unfortunately it was not dispatched until the new year. I think the original cost was about £150 and then there was £15 P&P. The parcel has been stuck in Madrid for two weeks, she received a form to be completed and was subsequently asked for further information. Once everything was accepted she had to pay approx €85 for duty/VAT/Handling Charge, this had to be paid before they would release the parcel This has been done, but as of today the parcel has not been received, although we are relatively confident it will arrive in due course. Whilst annoying it is now one of those facts of life for the moment.

As I say some members have not had these problems....so clearly you could take your chances and maybe you will also be lucky.

Not sure this actually helps but as you can see from our experience it is best to be for-warned.

Regards.

All "commercial" shipments from the UK to Spain are subject to import taxes and duties. To the commercial value as per invoices and all other charges occured until arrival to destination are added. and import tax(es) as per HS/HTS code are applied, and the result is th basis for Spanish VAT (IVA) of generally 21%.

Shipments with a value of up to 22,- same as w/o commercial value are exempted from all taxes and duties.

For your wife: I have bought, from sellers on Etsy, fabric from Germany and France. Quick delivery and no extra charges. Most of the sellers on Etsy will deal with you in English.

That is most kind for passing on that information - my wife will be really interested as she finds very little quality fabric in the locality.

Many thanks,

Bob

This is very true.

I found a really useful website where you can check how much Import Tax and Vat you would be liable for ...

https://tulli.fi/en/customs-duty-calculator?current=start&currency-id=1

Cheers
