Hi - would anyone be able to give me an idea of what i should pay a neigh (and friend) to keep my key and keep an eye on my house> possibly turn electricity on in advance of me turning up.  Anything like cleaning or preparing for guests is paid as extra.  Thanks

Remember.....make sure you have 1000% trust in who you leave the key with, it’s not uncommon for unscrupulous key holders to ‘let’ out your place for a few nights!!

100% trust. Have been doing it for a while - but have slowly done less in my absence so I am re assessing payment. I have experience the house being let out by the people looking after the house! My sister in law turned up and exposed them !

I take my friends out for a evening meal. It's sociable and you catch up with things. Nothing expensive, such as a Chinese meal.

I make an excuse, such as go to the loo, then pay at the counter not to make a fuss at the table.

But it is true of other members replies, you need 100% trust, as I have seen for myself people taking liberties.

Very true, but it is still nice to treat your friends. Maybe the jury's out on this one.
