Hi everyone  we were hoping to move permanently to la marina , but I read some disparaging reports on line about the area ,  it stated people are  leaving because of riseing community fees and shops and bars closing is this so , as we were looking forward to relocating,  WE are unsure at the moment  what to do. Counting on your honest comments.Thank you .

We've lived here 15 years now, so I really can give you honest answers!

Truth is, you only hear from the 'moaners', - the happy folks have got no reason to take to social media to tell you that they're staying! And the moaners are often just justifying their decision to return to UK.

I don't know of any bar that has closed, and not been taken over soon after by new owners. Especially at this time of year, all the bars and restaurants are buzzing - just have a look at Ramon's or The Grill House one evening and see for yourself.

I can't comment on community fees, because although I live on the urb. my house is not part of a community. I'm glad it's not, as communities can be troublesome on occasion. But I've not heard reports of big increases in community fees.

Why not come here and rent for a while and judge for yourself? I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Regards,

Geoff.

Moved here last Sept. from inland. Don’t listen to all the moans, we love the place and the people. Don’t forget places are what you make it. Wish we had moved here years ago.

We have had  a house in La Marina since 2004 and we love it.  It's so relaxing and there are wonderful places to eat. Our daughter has just been out for a holiday with her family of 4 children and they found loads to do.  We don't pay community fees. Maybe you are better looking for property which is free of these fees.  If you know La Marina and want to talk to someone I suggest you speak to Carl and his wife on the bottom road, they have British Hairways Hairdressers.  They came when their children were little and they wouldn't go back to the UK.  Best of luck.  Regards, Susan

I do not live in La Marina but pay community charges of just over €300. I was paying over £1000 in the UK when I left over 11 years ago.

My partner lives in La Marina village (Not the urb) and pays about €260.

She recommends you contact the La Marina Forum to get more information

We live on the urb and in a community we have been here now for 18years in our holiday home, the community is fine the help you receive from a community is great if you buy out with a community you could find you don’t know who to turn to,but we have all uk and a very few Spanish neighbors and I can honestly say they are all brilliant. We love lamarina and would not think about selling our home, also this forum is great, just ask Jim or geofflo or any long term blogger on here and I’m sure you’ll find everything you need from bus times, where to go,to eat out, visit, and good tradesmen etc,as George Harrison said “HERE COMES THE SUN”
