We're due to visit Spain shortly and would be grateful for a bit of clarification on a few aspects when out shopping at supermarkets like Mercadona and Consum. Are you able to pay with cash or is it card purchases only? Are face coverings compulsory? and are gloves compulsory? Just need to come prepared. Thanks.
Cash or card for payments, masks must be worn, some are still providing gloves but others are just saying for loose produce, couples are allowed, hand gel on entry.

Definitely face masks, I have been told that we should carry a facemask at all times as you may encounter a situation where you can't social distance. We keep a stock of masks in car and I carry them with me when we are out and about. Gloves or hand sanitizer in the car are useful for when you use an ATM or touch any other hard surface and can't wash your hands.
Noticed today our local Mercadona is opening on Sundays starting this Sunday the 5th 9-3.

You can pay cash in most places although they do prefer contactless payments by card. The wearing of masks is compulsory in all retail outlets and is highly recommended where you will come into contact with a lot of people. With regard to gloves and sanitiser - all outlets (apart from bars/restaurants/cafes)have these at the entrance to their premises and it is compulsory to use the saniser but not the gloves ( in Mercadona - may differ in other shops)unless you are handling perishables, ie fruit & veg, bread and other loose produce. Having said that, I would still use the gloves simply because thoughtless people will still handle things they won´t buy. The weather is indeed very hot. 30 degrees plus yesterday afternoon.
