Hi

I am new to the forum so thanks in advance for any replies that might come my way!

We are looking to buy an apartment in the area. There are plenty available it seems, and our preference is to draw up a shortlist before visiting and viewing anywhere. We have previously purchased in Spain (Costa del Sol) but are looking for a change.

The urbanisation is large and prices for similar looking properties seem to vary quite a bit. This might suggest that some areas are more attractive than others to potential buyers. The different 'Parques' don't mean anything to us at this stage.

So it would be really helpful if anyone could give us a hand with any thoughts on the areas we might want to focus on or alternatively avoid. l know it can be a bit subjective and views are personal, but our preference is for safe and quiet areas rather than busy/lively areas, but within walking distance to shops/bars/restaurants.

Any thoughts/experiences and views will be gratefully received

Cheers

Richard

La Marina urb has most of what you require a few shops banks etc quiet not a lot going on.You might like to look into the resort ofGRAN ALICANT much nearer to Alicante Airport  also looks a more appealing modern town has more going for it than La Marina.

If you are looking for peace and quiet then dont even think about Gran Alacant, unhappily it has now become little Benidorm.

I wss under the impression that Gran Alacant was a reasonable venue as it now has a hotel and good shopping centre not aware of how lively it has become.

Hi Richard and welcome to the forum!

My in-laws lived on La Marina urb for 18 years, so I know it quite well.  There's a huge selection of property, from the original, older style properties on the eastern side of the urb, to the more modern, newer developments, which now reach down to the San Fulgencio to Elche road.  A lot depends on whether you're looking for a holiday home or somewhere to live permanently, what type of property you're looking for and your budget.  There are several commercial areas on the urb itself, with bars, restaurants and shops, but you don't have to go far away from them not to be bothered by noise, whilst still walking distance when you want it.

After my in-laws passed away (both in their late 80's), we sold their house through Newstart estate agents and I was very impressed with their service, especially as the property had previously been listed with Zafira, who were hopeless, so have a look at Newstart's listings, and if you wouldn't mind giving us a little more information about what you're looking for, we may be able to help you target the best area for your needs.

I also know Gran Alacant (my sister-in-law owns a second property there), but I wouldn't venture which would suit you better before knowing your requirements.  As you say, these things are subject\ive and can often come down to where you get "that feeling"!

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim

That's really helpful.

We have just sold our place in Mijas Costa and looking to have a change, Alicante airport is best served by our local airport as opposed to Murcia, hence us looking in this area.

We are looking for a place where we can come to several times year, mainly out of season, rather than moving permanently, I like to play a bit of golf, walk and enjoy the climate. My wife lives to do the walking bit and chilling on a terrace.

We prefer a slightly quieter environment where we can walk into a central area. Prefer if not in an area where it's all holiday lets - but realise its hard to control that.

Not quite sure from few responses we've had that La Marina might be too big and possibly lacking a bit of character? For example are there any nice areas around La Marina where you can walk to? Obviously the coast seems too far to walk to?

Have already had contact with NewStart - taking a slow and steady look, as lots of agencies sharing properties of course!

Best regards

Richard

 Hi Richard

Me and my husband often walk to the beach from Fase 1 on the Urb. We also have bicycles and cycle to Guardamar and the Port area, Rojales, we use the back roads. We no longer drive over from the U.K. and have found so many places to walk & cycle that we never knew existed.

Good luck with you property search

Anne

A hotel is not a guarantee of anything, except hotel rooms.

I came to Gran Alacant 15 years ago thinking that it was a residential area. Unfortunately, for me, it is becoming Benidorm 2.

If you want a quiet life this is not the place to look.

Good luck with your search.
