Can anyone recommend a company that undertakes roof insulation.

Our property has plaster/cement type ceiling tiles suspended on a type of horse hair coated in cement.  I basically am thinking of having the space above the tiles filled with a Rockwool or Polystyrene beads.  Basically some form of Blown Loft Insulation.

Thanks

Syd

I have not got good news for you but I have never seen that technique being used in Spain.  Not saying there isn't anybody though.

When we did our extension I wanted Visquene under the concrete, cavity walls , a damp course and cavity insulation and roof insulation.  It would have been easier asking for the moon.  None of the builders merchants seemed to know diddly squat about nada and moreover thought I was a mad Englishman.

Please let us know if you find anyone as the old part of the house has the same ceilings as you.

I fully understand when you say none of the builders merchants know diddly squat. However I will keep looking.

Hi Syd.  Here's what I did in the absence of the proper stuff.  The builders did actually have some 8 x 4  (yes, I'm still in feet)  polystyrene sheets.  As the walls went up I built them into the cavity walls. Seeing no wall ties are available in Spain I made my own out of small re-bar.and poked them through the sheets at the appropriate time. As far as damp course went, I cut that from roofing felt. That's rocket science to a Spanish builder.  They explained that damp walls are only a problem in winter so they don't bother!!

Have you ever noticed that most Spanish houses have decaying render/plaster up to about a metre which is due to rising damp. They tend just to tile over it to cover it up.

As far as roof insulation went I put the sheets above the suspended ceiling frame. The sheets were 75mm thick so I doubled up in the roof space.  In the old part of the house there is no access to above the ceiling.

Good luck with your searches.  CM aka Mike

Try this company as he had done our walls and ceiling with blue foam balls and the house is so much warmer and no damp smell in any room now speak to Barry and tell him John recommended him +34 626 99 77 49 it really does work and no damage to the property
