Hi All.

back in the Urb and starting further building  work next week. I need some advice we have an underbuild and we are planning to renovate it.

we have a problem with mould and I presume damp ingress? I have scraped off the loose paint and gotelle wall finish and I am going to re cover and repaint but what i would like to know is this. Is there any product available that can be applied to the walls to prevent re occurrence of the problem some kind of treatment and sealer maybe.

Thanks all.

Steve.

Have you got  good ventilation  in  Underbuild,  it  can  cause  dampness,

I recall a product in the UK  years back called "No more damp" that you just painted on.

It was great for a while, but only masked things.

The only solution is to treat it at source and along with Sligogent, I'd be looking at lack of adequate ventilation as the problem.

You can try "tanking slurry" ( https://www.amazon.es/KA-Tanking-Slurry-Blanco/dp/B00CM5UKF6?tag=cstareg0f-21 )which is like thin mortar and is painted onto the walls. However, proper tanking membrane is a better solution. This is very thick plastic membrane professionally installed using hard plastic mushroom shaped fittings and then dot & dab plasterboarded.

Whichever method you use you will still need plenty of ventilation and will run the risk of the damp rising/spreading to currently unaffected areas.

Before resorting to these remedies, make sure of the nature of the problem.

It is possible that you don't have a damp problem. I thought that i had, but in fact it was salts leaching out following a reaction between the different materials used in the build.

Good point, which a builder or surveyor could answer.

I don't think damp meters are particularly expensive, but not ideal for a one off buy.
