Hello Brian

I was at Torrevieja hospital last night for an appt re cataract surgery.  I now have to have the blood tests &  ecg , & the  anaesthetist appt is scheduled for April, then I await an appt.

I spoke to a lady last night who had one eye done at the Quiron Hospital & it cost €2000 -- for her  2nd eye op it would have been  €1800!  This info might help anyone thinking of having this procedure done privately.

She is now, waiting for pre op appts &  having surgery at  Torrevieja Hospital .

Cheers

Elinspain

Thank you for your very helpfull reply Elinspain

Oh dear!! Ive just had a registered letter from Hospital Torrivieja informing me that they had tried to phone me 3 times over the Christmas / New Year period and I had to now phone the hospital directly.  I phoned and explained that my phone number had not changed but that I was in England for Christmas during the dates they had tried to phone me.  Normally they send me a text message and I checked messages every day I was on holiday.

They said that the phone number they had tried to contact me on was 'muy largo' and that I had not answered when they called.

Long and short of it all is that they will contact me by phone when they have arranged a new appointment date.  So all is well that ends well and I'm now looking forward to getting my appointment for the cataract operation thank goodness

Hi Martmat,

Thanks for getting back to me, the hospital have offered me private cataract, op paid for by Torrevieja hospital, instead of 3 months wait with them,

what I did not realise was that I have to see optomalgist, àt private hospital, blood tests, and ecg again before I can have the op, as a different private hospital, I have to wait for a month before the appointment, for the pre op tests

so maybe a bad move saying I would take the offer to go private,

Brian

Hi

I am 71 years old and have national health care in Spain being a resident,

I am waiting to have one cateract done, and to date after 1 year I am still waiting, I was told 2 months ago by Torrevieja hospital that their waiting list is now up to a three month wait for this opp,

but they would pay for me to go private and therefor a lot quicker,

After a month I received a call from the private hospital to say that I have an appointment in 1 month to assess my eye again, when I have already had this done at Torrevieja hospital, I feel like I am being pushed from pillar to post, as by the time I get the opp done it will be longer that the original wait àt the state hospital,

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced the same,

Thanks Brian.

Hi

I'm in the UK and have a home in Spain, Ok just wanted to say, since your last appointment, things might have change, and they are a private hospital so they may need to their own investigation,  I worked in a health emviroemt so it's sounds feesavle, but I'm sure you will have your surgery soon.

Hi Gloria

Thank you for your reply,

Yes looks like the state hospitals over here don't share any information with other hospitals, same in UK I expect, I had my other eye done in the UK a few years ago, and I can't remember all the rigmarole over there,

Just a blood pressure check before op to make sure it was not to high,

Brian.

Hi

I know, but they can't just do an op when they haven't any new information on the patient, they might want to take bloods, it's all done for a reason

Yes I understand the reason behind it, just feels at the time that you are getting nowhere very quickly,

Thanks Brian.

Just wanted to say in the UK your GP would have sent your referral to the Private Hospital with your information. I don't know how Spain works ,
