Hi Jlo

It’s so very worrying, I know. I’m assuming your mum is in Spain but you’re in the U.K.?

Maybe, along with looking for a carer, you would be wise to explore technology to support her care. There are cameras that allow you to monitor her in and out of the home. An early alert to a fall is often the difference between life and death. Accepting no one lives for ever, and, in my opinion, nor should they, it’s a whole world away from dying alone on the floor.

I’ve not yet needed to look at what’s available in Spain, maybe there are quite sophisticated systems, however, cameras, strategically placed, would at least allow you to summon help from a distance 🤪🥂

You need to obtain a Red Cross ( Cruz roja) alarm for her, the type connected to the phone with a button pendant for her to wear. I obtained one for my mother some years ago. They ring regularly to check she’s ok and when some few years into this she fell late one evening and broke her hip, they were able to contact neighbours with a key etc etc.

It costs about 250 Eu to set up and thereafter around 20  Eu a month. They supply the telephone kit and button, which have to be returned when contract ceases.

My mother created havoc about having to wear it, she was over 80 when I obtained it, but was very grateful in the event. She’s now nearly 94 and in a Residencia.

The Red Cross service - Teleasistencia - is excellent.  I have used this 6 times in the last 2 weeks for medical emergency (not mine) and they are very quick and helpful.  Money well spent.

The suggestion for a camera is also a very good one. I got one from Amazon, around 30€, and the video quality is great.

Two pieces of very good advice.
