Hi Cath,

No.  The most recent report I've seen on Covid-19 was in El Pais on Wednesday, 26 February, which said that a further 10 cases reported last week brings the total in Spain to 22 - most of those are in Tenerife, with individual cases in La Gomera, Mallorca, Seville, Madrid, Catalonia and one case in the Valencian region, but that is in Vila-Real in the province of Castellon, about 3 hours away from La Marina.  All these cases have been traced back to connections with travel to Wuhan in China or the main outbreaks in the north of Italy, and in the case of Tenerife, to an Italian couple who had travelled to the Canaries.  Two of the cases have already recovered and been discharged from hospital.

Kind regards,

Kim

What I saw on last nights Spanish news there is 55 cases in the whole of Spain including the canaries, with the majority of 22? Cases in the Valencian area.

Hi Peter,

Your post shows what a constantly moving situation this is.  Any location details for the cases reported in the Valencian region please?

Kind regards,

Kim

I believe I understood that a lot of the cases in the Valencian region were in and around Valencia,

In the Generalitat Valencia, yes. I'm not aware of any cases yet in Valencia itself. The nearest case to us is at Castellon, 75km north of the city. This may have changed in the last 24 hours.

If you have evidence of "a lot of the cases being in and around Valencia" I'd be pleased to see it because if your information is incorrect we need to be careful not to misinform people.

Totally agree, and as said I am on the understanding of what I saw and understood on the Spanish news that there were 22? Cases in the Valencian region, so apologies for any misinterpretations and will say no more or the subject.

Is anyone aware of the official guidance from the Spainsh Health Authority on COVID19, do they have a number to call like in the UK?

I've not seen the Spanish news, you may actually be correct, I'm just looking for a source that could confirm live and accurate information. I'll have a look.

It's possible there is some confusion between us all on numbers because the Tenerife numbers may or may not be getting included in the national total at times.

Hi Steve,

The numbers I quoted from El Pais included Tenerife, but as I said, those were as of 26 February and, as we've seen elsewhere, this is a rapidly developing situation - 4 days later I expect those numbers will have changed.

Like you, I haven't seen any report of significant numbers in the Valencian region, other than the one we've both noted in the province of Castellon.  I plan to keep abreast of developments, as we're booked to go to Valencia for Las Fallas in a couple of weeks' time! 😱😄

As I'm typing, a news alert has come up on my phone for another 12 cases reported in the UK.  Perhaps La Marina would be safer...... 😉

Kind regards,

Kim
